If you use a menstrual cup, how do you feel about it?

I'm worried about getting my period on my wedding day since my cycle and flow have been really unpredictable after going off the pill three months ago. I was thinking the cup might be the answer to my concerns because I wouldn't have to think about it all day or try to change a tampon in my ball gown. Yikes.

I have a call into my doctor about if it's safe for me to use (I have an IUD and the internet says it's fine but I want the word from the professional!), but I'd love to hear some input from actual users. What brand do you prefer? What fold do you use? Any other tips or tricks?

Thanks!

I just got a diva cup (size 2-over 30, no kids) and it's been a pain to get used to; first try I could "feel" it and took it out, Second try I got it in there but got scared it was too far up there and took it out, third try felt good until I had to use the bathroom and then it shimmied down on its own and I had to take it out again. TMI but all that to say, definitely give yourself some time to get used to it! The last thing you want to be thinking about on your wedding day is if your cup is sitting right!

I love it! I use the basic c fold. Practice a few times before the wedding though. It's hard to get the cup open fully after inserting it, so it takes some practice. I can leave mine in for a full 24 hours without worrying, and it's made my cramps and period lighter somehow.

Sorry to hijack, but any advice around traveling with one? I want to try it out, its a crapshoot if I'll be on my period on my wedding day or not but I really want to take one to Europe with me. Would it be okay if I didn't have a chance to sanitize it until we got back? I would clean it after use of course!

Kristin- You could soak it in some hydrogen peroxide and then place it in a zip lock bag until you're able to sanitize it at home.

I've been using a diva cup for 9 years and have a pretty crazy period. Honestly, it took me quite a while to get the hang of it. I wasn't able to put it in without lying on for floor for a few months and leaking was an issue. I would do what you are most comfortable with and double down with a panty liner. If you use a menstrual cup, DEFINITELY have a backup.

I absolutely love my diva cup, but your wedding is not a time I would advise trying it out.

I bought a diva cup maybe 6 months ago. I had a lot of trouble getting it to fit in comfortably. I gave up the first day after a few tries. I tried again the next month, still having issues, like it sliding down/out. Clearly doing something wrong.. I don't think I've touched it since. Maybe I'll give it another try. I paid too much $$ for it to only try it twice lol

Too late in the party but here's my experience about menstrual cups. :-)

Menstrual cups are awesome and easy to use. Once you get used to it, you'll feel really comfy. You may first find it uncomfortable while inserting it but after 3-4 uses, you'll feel ok.

The best part is - you will save you a lot of money. One menstrual cup will last for 5 years if you know how to clean.

In the starting, you may have problems choosing the correct cup size. Most women get the perfect cup after trying 2-3 brands/cups. So, experiment it.

In case you are finding difficulties in choosing the correct size and feature, I suggest you to go through this complete guide - What Is The Best Menstrual Cup For Me ?

I have been using menstrual cups for the last couple of years and I'm definitely happy.

When it comes to brands, I have been using Diva Cup and Saalt. Both! They are good for starters too.

    Happy period, women!

I'm glad you ordered one. It does take a little getting used to. Be sure the tiny holes away the top are clean or you might not get a good seal. I've been using Diva cup for decades and have had to use a tampon once or twice since. The cup is so much more comfortable (for me)! Good luck!
