Calling all Pregnant Brides!

Mrs, on February 22, 2017 at 1:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Hi guys! I found out recently that I will be about 5 months pregnant on our wedding date. Yay! But I am super worried about the dress. It hasn't even come in yet, and I am really nervous about it fitting over my bump. Obviously I have no idea how big it'll be and I have no idea how to prepare for that.

I will of course talk to my seamstress but I am curious if any other pregnant brides are in this situation/came up with a good solution without having to buy a new dress? This is my absolute dream dress, I can't return or exchange it, and I would hate to have wasted the money on it and then shell out more for a new one.

ETA grammar, and also I just realized how ridiculous my face looks in this photo

Love your dress! Congrats! I've not been in this situation but why don't you call the store and see what the seamstresses normally recommend in similar situations with the type of dress you got?

I'm currently 5 months pregnant and looking at that dress I know that while I might have fit it pre-baby, there's no way I'd fit it now, and I'm more on the petite side (although I'm a lot shorter than you, it seems based on that picture!!). I would definitely ask a seamstress what they'd recommend. The dress is gorgeous- hope you can find a solution that works out!

    Congrats!

I'm not currently pregnant, but just like every woman's body is different pre pregnancy, every woman's body is different while pregnant.

It's very hard to say how you will be carrying at 5 months. Some women are barely showing at that time. Some look full term.

My advice to you is to buy a less expensive pregnancy friendly dress to have as a back up.

Then explain the situation to your seamstress, but chances are you are not going to know if the dress will work for you until you are much closer to your wedding date.

@Kathryn I'm so glad you think I look tall! I'm only 5 feet Smiley winking

I feel like the only way to make this dress work would be to create an empire waist, and I really doubt the seamstress is going to want to change the design of the entire dress. It is going to absolutely break my heart to wear a different dress on our wedding day Smiley sad

When do you guys recommend I go in for my first alterations appointment then? Obviously I won't know what size I'll be until much closer to the wedding, but I need to give time for alterations in case they can do something. Then if this dress won't work at all and I have to wear a totally different one, I'd rather this one not be altered much so I can sell it and recover some of my money...

I didn't start really showing pregnant until 4 months, and even then it was a tiny bump. Little girl is just now in the last month starting to really stick out. So it might be hard to time your alterations if it's going to end up with having to do a new dress. I would call a seamstress ASAP just to see what they suggest- you could also use one of those fake baby bellies that they have at maternity stores that you can wear under clothes to see if they'll fit to give you some idea as to what the dress may look like. I know sometimes David's Bridal has them as well! But it's just such a guessing game since every body is so different. I think calling a seamstress as soon as possible for advice is your best bet.

The best idea is if your seamstress can at least raise it to the bottom of your ribs that way it won't be effected to much by a baby bump. Smiley smile at 5 months I had a decent bump but it got really big about 7 months in so you might be ok.

@Aylen I was kind of thinking the same thing, if they could raise the waist that would help a lot. Maybe they can stick a band of elastic in there too Smiley winking

    Hi!

I'm not sure how the back of the dress is, but maybe if you add a corset back that might give you some more wiggle room. Usually that can add 2-3 dress sizes bigger. I heard it's usually about $200 to add it. And maybe you can call the place you purchased your dress from to add it before you even get it. So that your seamstress doesn't have to do so much work to it.

    Good luck!

@Mrs. Richmond that would be good to! Lol Luckily your dress has the perfect flowy bottom for a bump so hopefully they can work with you! Smiley smile A corset could work to like Angelica said but I personally didn't want anything tight on my belly at the time lmao but its also a good option if they can't raise it just a little.
