Calling NYE brides! NYE Timeline Help

DesertPolarBear, on June 4, 2017 at 8:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 49

We are getting married NYE which means a late timeline. Our website has a note that we recommend eating a light, early dinner but we will serve plenty of food to keep the party going to the new year. Thoughts on the below timeline?

7:15/20 pm Guests arrive, passed hot chocolate on welcome

7:40 pm ushers direct guests toward seats

7:50 pm processional

8:15 pm recessional, guests to reception hall where there are display and passed HDVs as well as signature cocktails ready to go

8:30 pm Wedding party/family introduction into first dance

8:35 pm FOB toast, begin dinner service with other toasts during meal

9:30 pm father/daughter and mother/son dance

10:30 pm Anniversary dance followed by cake cutting

11:55 pm-12:00 am stream ball drop

12:20 am grand exit of B G

I wouldn't attend a NYE wedding. Or a wedding on any major holiday for that matter.

Not a particularly helpful comment, and luckily all of the people I am closest to have actually already booked travel and will be making it.

Went to a New Year's Eve wedding and it was literally the time of my life!! I wanted to do one but then I realized I hate winter lol. Don't knock it til ya try it @MrsD!

@OP your timeline sounds good. Any way it can be a spiked hot chocolate? Smiley winking Also 5 minutes for the ball drop sounds like alottttt of non-partying. I would do 11:58.

@Jillian Thanks for the feedback- mine is a tight knit crowd luckily and based on the ones I have talked to since save the dates went out there is no place they'd rather be on NYE then together with a DJ and an open bar lol. It is weirdly hard to imagine five minutes of party time when you are staring at an Excel sheet but I am thinking that is a good call on slightly less ball drop streaming. Thanks!

I feel like the party is just going to be getting started @ 12. That could be because any NYE party I have been to ended later. Other than that I think your time line is great.

That would be a hard pass from me as well, as we have standing plans, but your timeline is OK. Agree with Rena that 12 should be the start of the real dancing.

My niece actually got married on NYE, so I actually have tried it. Everyone that attended was pissed, but they all smiled and told her they were happy for her because they didn't want to be rude. We went because she was family and you just don't skip a family wedding.

I wasn't trying to be rude, just being honest, many people close to you may be unhappy but won't tell you to your face like you'd hear on here. It's very selfish to assume that everyone will want to spend a holiday with you and forgo spending it the way they prefer.

@Rena yeah we cannot stay at our venue past 12:30 however there is a rooftop bar at our hotel and depending on how people are feeling we may join the party up there. Honestly kind of love the idea of being "out" in a wedding dress haha

We went to a NYE wedding(celebration) and had the best time. There was dinner at 7. Then some speeches and a quick slideshow of DW. Then dances. At midnight they did a countdown and then we all went outside to watch the cities fireworks. Then they had a midnight lunch of cold cuts and salads. We got on the bus at 2:30am to go back to hotel. Then we partied in hotel rooms till the sun came up.

Oh well thats cool. You could have a "after party" wedding at the top for anyone that wants to stay.

Also we have asked friends who are getting married to please have it on NYE. We had that much fun. It's so much better than going to bars or a club.

You can't tell people how to post. It's against the community guidelines and it's a free country

Don't tell people how to post or what type of comments you want. If you know WW enough that it "drives you nuts", then you should know you'll get all types of comments.

And I also agree- I wouldn't go to a wedding on a major holiday. Glad your guests are going though.

@Mrs.D It's a free country indeed, I just think most people on here comment in a spirit of helpfulness rather than cattiness. My wedding has absolutely zero effect on you.

I can see a Christmas Day wedding not being something I would ever attend. NYE is a night to celebrate and party. I think this is a perfect night for a wedding and what a wonderful way to ring in the new year.

I'm very helpful I assure you. I've been on this forum for much longer than you. If it were me, I'd want to know if my wedding date irritated the majority of my guests, thus the comment.

    I think it's fine.

I don't think the note about eating a light meal beforehand is necessary though, I'm sure most people can sort that out themselves.
