Calling tables for dinner

Mrs.VtoBe, on June 9, 2017 at 12:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

So my mom thinks that it's a good idea to have the DJ call tables by playing different songs. Basically each table will have a song on it and he will play it from the time they get up, until the buffet line dwindles down then he will play the next tables song. For some reason I can't get with this idea. I'd much rather have a person go to each table when it's time for them to eat.

Am I missing out on a cute idea by not doing the songs?

It could be cute... only if everyone knows the song. You would have to use very common songs like " ICE ICE Baby" or something like that lol

Skip it. Just have him call out table numbers. No one cares - they want to EAT. lol

They did this at my cousins wedding. We didn't know the song that was assigned to our table, but figured it out when no body else got up. In my opinion it was too much of a hassle.

From a caterers perspective, do NOT do this. It is a cute idea, but will likely turn into a mess. Your caterer and/or DOC should be in charge of sending tables to the buffet line. There's more to it than the line being short or long.

I prefer just to be released. I went to a wedding once where they did trivia and whatever table got the answer right got to go. It was awful and took forever.

No. Just not a good idea. What about elderly who may take longer? Just no. One of our catering staff had tables dismissed

Have your Maitre D, captain or DOC just invite tables. No one is going to figure out the songs, it'll take forever and it does nothing to enhance the experience.

Thanks ! I feel like it would be more appropriate to have someone go up to the tables and tell them!

Don't do it. Went to a wedding last year where the dj asked each table to pick a song, and when it was that tables turn to get food, the song they picked would play. It was awful. Guests were complaining about it the entire time (obviously not to the bride and groom's faces).

It's cute but seems to complicate a pretty simple procedure.
