Camera Scavenger Hunt...What Do You Think?

Stefanie, on June 22, 2012 at 9:21 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

I wanted to provide cameras and have the kids go around and take pictures of specific things (ex. "Take a picture of someone dancing." "Take a picture of the bride and groom." "Take a picture of someone eating their dinner.") I figured this would give them something to do. Originally I was going to have harder clues like "Find someone who has know the bride or groom for more than 20 years." "Find a couple who has been married more than 10 years." but have decided to make it a bit easier.

Anyways, my mom always finds the negative in things (unless it's her idea...) and she says "I don't want kids running around taking pictures of everything. That will just annoy everyone." In my opinion...I would much rather have the kids taking pictures than have them run around screaming and playing tag etc. Plus if you put disposable cameras on the tables the kids usually get ahold of them and snap away anyways.

    I got cut off! LOL!

I would rather have pictures of my great aunt and uncle or people on the dance floor than of the floor...the wall...etc because they're just snapping pictures.

Have any of you done this? Did you provide cameras or just have people use their own digital cameras. If so what items did you have on the list for them to find and how did it go?

I have not done this, nor have I heard about it. But it sounds like a great idea to keep the kids occupied! Disposable cameras are pretty cheap and if it keeps the kids from screaming, playing tag, and generally getting in the way, while capturing some memorable moments, I say great idea.

Question though, how old are the kids? That makes a difference.

I would say the kids participating would be age 7-12 or so.

Great idea. I have been trying to think of activities to keep the kids occupied, and I think I might use this one

I figure I'll do this for age 7-12 and for 6 and under I'm going to have a table with paper and crayons and ask the kids to draw a picture of the bride and groom. I think it will be fun for them and fun for us to look at the picture the 4 year old drew of us on our wedding day when they're 18 and graduating high school. Smiley smile

I think this is a fine idea to give something for the kids to do. However if you do use disposable camera's just know that the money that you spend on the cameras and developing them will probably only be for the purpose of entertaining the kids and not actually produce any worthwhile photos.

Normally for people wanting to do "I spy" or photo scavenger hunts at their wedding, it is usually recommended that people just use their own digital cameras or smart phones (which usually most guests bring to a wedding anyway) rather than wasting money on cheap disposables. However since you are targeting towards kids, it isn't sure to say whether parents will be willing to let their little one run around with their digital camera.

Sounds like a cute idea! Maybe you can give them a prize if they get all the photos so they will continue to remain occupied the entire time Smiley smile

My mom is the same way btw - hang in there! lol

Yea, I thought about asking people to help their kids on the digital camera or something. Haven't finalized yet. My mom is the best and has helped so much with the wedding I just get frustrated once in a while. Smiley smile We're both stubborn and don't want to give in on things.

I will be doing that my reception however, I don't have time for the kids to cut people heads off in the shots. So I'm putting a camera on each table and letting the adults take the pics. That's just my opinion!! All else fails the kid can get tripped if they get on my nerves LOL people she train their children to be formal when need be.

I'm doing cards, but not cameras. I developed the pictures from my sister's disposable cameras while she was on her honeymoon, and it ended up being like $100! and most of the pictures were of the kids doing the myspace pose and duck lips. I figure people will either use their cameras or phones for our I-Spy/scavenger hunt Smiley smile

    I'm with amee

Great idea, but if you really plan to pay to develop them, know that you will pay for a lot of garbage.

We have always let my kid sisters run around with a camera or camera phone (age 7 & 9) but I guess it is up to the parents and how responsible the kids are.

    ~ happy planninng
