Campground wedding?

Brandieb123, on May 15, 2016 at 1:10 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 68

I was approached by someone who owns some land with a campground.

She wants $200 for the pavilion space/surrounding area and I would get it all day.

I could pretty much do whatever I want. Alcohol is fine. No extra fee. No certain time to end the reception.

There are these adorable cabins there. They are $30 a night to rent They have ac/heat. I was thinking about possibly renting the whole thing for the weekend. People who would want to stay could stay there.

I dont know about the ceremony yet. When I went to look at this I was only looking for a reception venue. It is too far from the garden for reception. There are walking trails here. I was thinking about going down there one day to see if there was some kind of opening I could use for a ceremony.

I am really thinking about doing it. I think it could be fun and there is a lot I could do to the place.

Has anyone ever been to a camp wedding?

**Yes my wedding is more laid back. There will only be about 60 people attending.

I haven't attended a campground wedding but I think it sounds fun! I love the outdoors. I would imagine there would be a lot more work involved though.

    I think it sounds cool!!!!

There is a lot to think about.... catering, ice coolers for drinks.... a lot of logistics to work out, but those cabins look so fun!

Most important question... are there proper bathrooms? lol

I think of myself as creative. Honestly I am more excited with this because of all of the things I would be allowed to do. I have more freedom here than anywhere I have looked at so far

I would love it! It looks like it would need a lot of work... But if you're up for the challenge I think it would turn out amazing.

I've been to a wedding where we all camped and it was a blast.

I think for the size of your wedding this is totally doable and has the potential to be really awesome!

BUT....be prepared for a lot of work. We're having our wedding at a large property vacation rental and am hiring all of my own vendors and it's no walk in the park (no pun intended). As long as you're committed and organized you could really have a successful and unique wedding.

There are compost bathrooms. It sounded a little iffy to me before I saw them. They arent just buckets you go in. Thats what I thought when she said it. They look fine. There are showers and stuff too.

There is an ice freezer on the other side of the pavilion thing. I keep calling it a pavilion because thats what it used to be. This used to be a girl scout camp. Now it is still a camp but a majority of the land is a farm now. Incside the building there is a fireplace and space for whatever I decide if I get it. I will have a caterer.

I'm doing this! Ceremony and reception at a summer camp. We get it from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon and are inviting all guests to stay. I'm super excited about it but there are some definite challenges / drawbacks... There are lots if beautiful cabins, but they are all dorm style which I know some guests will not be into. Also, there are a lot more logistical and best comfort types of tasks that we have to do which wouldn't be a consideration at a more traditional venue: Climate control, mobility impaired guests, making the bathrooms nicer, and extra snacks, lighting, sound, etc...

This is something my family would have enjoyed, as we always camped together over summers. Your caterer should be able to help with the food-specific set up, storage, etc. and you probably already know you'll need places for drinks, snacks, and your other camping supplies. 60 doesn't sound like a daunting number for your idea, as it is easy to rack up the headcount on larger family get togethers that aren't weddings. I say go for it!

I am doing this as well! The campground we rented has four treehouse cabins and five regular ones, plus a big house. We rented it all for the weekend, so anyone who wants to stay the weekend with us can. For catering we hired a food truck, and will be using the picnic tables already there. You probably want to rent it for the day before the wedding to set up, especially if you wanted to hang lights, move tables around. I think its a great option, and a really good deal!

This sounds like a lot of fun! Especially if you get the grounds all to yourself. It could be a lot of work but like you said you have a lot of freedom to do what you want and make it your own. I say go for it!

I think this sounds great! As long as you're up for the work of pretty much starting from scratch, I say go for it. We're doing ours at a bed and breakfast that will do the catering but everything else has to be from outside and it's a lot of work. As long as you can handle it, do it!!

Do look at the total costs compared to a regular venue, which may depend on what facilities the campground has. If you need to rent a tent in case of rain, rent things like tables and chairs that a regular venue would provide, rent bathroom trailers because the compost bathrooms couldn't handle the number of guests without getting extremely icky, pay extra for caterers to travel and supply warming facilities because there is no kitchen, etc., the low rental cost may be balanced by far more expenses for other things.

What about your plan B. What will you do if it rains like Hell 3 or 4 days prior to your wedding and you have a field of mud?

Just looking at your date - where are you getting married?

Ok, yes sounds like fun. I camp and I'm low maintenance.

Some questions. Is there a place to stay nearby for those that don't want to camp? Is there a restaurant on site to provide for the reception or will you hire a caterer? What about supplies like tables chairs cutlery plates for 60 people. Will everyone pack their own food in for meals (other than reception)? Is there refrigeration? What about inclement weather? I see your wedding is in March...

Do the cabins come with linens? We're getting married at a GS camp (ceremony and reception) but opted not to rent the overnight part. It was $1700 extra, and although plenty of room, most of our guests are oot and we couldn't ask them to fly with sheets and pillows. I have no desire to run a temporary hotel, so we just blocked a few hotels and rented a school bus.

If it's more like a hotel in that the guests just show up, I think it would be super fun! Especially with a small wedding, everyone would really get to hang out and relax.

I am in South Carolina. I am hoping the weather will be the same as this year. There wasnt much rain in March and April.

I understand what you are saying about combined cost. The main reason I am interested in this is that I get to do whatever I want

I already have tables and chairs taken care of. There are hotels about 10 mi away. There is a fridge in the building. I would be providing food for as long as I am asking people to stay. I will be hiring a caterer.

I was thinking about getting the whole thing for the weekend. Set up on Friday. Wedding on Saturday and anyone who wants to stay can stay Saturday night.
