Campground wedding?

I was approached by someone who owns some land with a campground. She wants $200 for the pavilion space/surrounding area and I would get it all day. I could pretty much do whatever I want. Alcohol is fine. No extra fee. No certain time to end the reception. There are these adorable cabins there....

I was approached by someone who owns some land with a campground.

I could pretty much do whatever I want. Alcohol is fine. No extra fee. No certain time to end the reception.

There are these adorable cabins there. They are $30 a night to rent They have ac/heat. I was thinking about possibly renting the whole thing for the weekend. People who would want to stay could stay there.

I dont know about the ceremony yet. When I went to look at this I was only looking for a reception venue. It is too far from the garden for reception. There are walking trails here. I was thinking about going down there one day to see if there was some kind of opening I could use for a ceremony.

I am really thinking about doing it. I think it could be fun and there is a lot I could do to the place.

Has anyone ever been to a camp wedding?

**Yes my wedding is more laid back. There will only be about 60 people attending.

Personally I hate camping so I would not stay over night. I would come as long as there wasn't a ton of mosquitos.

We have two campgrounds that people use here, and another that has transformed itself into a venue with catering, etc onsite.

I think it sounds like fun if your guests would be into it AND/OR have alternatives for those who are not into camping/cabins or relatives that can't deal with the stilts...

    Some things to think about;

Be very clear about your costs; ALL of them, down to ice and extra toilet paper. Get catering quotes from someone who is willing to do a site visit and rental quotes from the same. Visit it in the rain, if you can (there is no hoping this year will be like last year; weather doesn't work like that.....) to see how comfortable that is.

One other detail; money. Can your guests pay directly to the camp, like a hotel block? I can't see any efficient, graceful way for you to be the temp innkeeeper.

I will be renting the whole thing. There will be room for those who want to stay. For those who do not, they can go home or get a hotel. Everyone is local except for my family. My family loves camping and actually prefer tents to cabins. There is spaces for tent camping but I am renting the cabins so they can stay there or bring the tent if they want.

I understand the rain issue, but really what can you do? The only thing you can do is hope for the best and have a plan b just in case.

Plan B: Rent or buy a tent ahead of time. Use the building and the tent for reception and ceremony. Problem solved. It wont be exactly how I want it to be but honestly its fine. The goal of the wedding is to get married. No matter what, that goal will be met.

I think as a guest this would be a ton of fun!

Personally, my biggest regret was not going with an all-inclusive venue. We mixed and matched vendors, the costs added up fast, and it was a pain, so as a bride, I would probably dread planning this knowing what I know now (but that's just me!) It sounds like this is right up your alley.

Like everyone else has said, create a spreadsheet for all of the costs (cleaning up the site, scrubbing down the tables, renting bathrooms that aren't on stilts (super liability especially if people have been drinking), secure trash cans, portable kitchen, power, a dance floor, spraying for ants, potable water, chairs, linens, lighting, dishware, flatware, glasses, staffing to clean up, etc.). While it sounds fun, don't go into thinking you will save a ton of money. Run the numbers.

I think this sounds amazing!!! I would totally do this if I was having a fall wedding! The only thing I can see going wrong is the weather..if your date is correct it might be a little cold.

Its usually around the 60s. There will be a camp fire. the cabins have heat. There is a fireplace in the building. I really dont think it would be that bad
