Camping/outdoor Theme

Kelli, on January 3, 2018 at 10:45 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

Hi ladies! I've been scrolling through this forum and everyone has such amazing tips, so here I am to ask for suggestions!

Our wedding is August 25th, and we are big campers. It's at an old-time venue with historic buildings all around. We are having the ceremony on a front porch of an old house, and the reception/dance in a building that is very wood-like with old historic features. We are thinking of doing a "camping" theme for the wedding, but I have NO idea where to go with centerpieces and searching "camping wedding centerpieces" on Pinterest isn't helping. I'm thinking lanterns might be cute, but we are also doing this all without a loan so looking to keep it budget friendly.

Any great ideas from you wonderful ladies?! Smiley smile

I've never seen a "camping" themed wedding. Usually, your colors are your theme, unless its Christmas or fall time. I think lanterns with some wild flowers or a lot of greenery instead of regular flowers would be nice. Maybe FH grooms cake could be a yeti cooler or a campfire. You could have a signature cocktail at the bar named after fun camp things? Ex. Fire pit-could be fireball mixed with something? Maybe have a smores bar as a late night snack or a trail mix bar? This is a good time to play with save the dates and invites to be more rustic, or with a mountain background? Have pies instead of wedding cake? A welcome sign that says "Welcome campers! with your names and the date? Wear a flannel garter? I wouldn't go too heavy on the theme. It's a wedding, not a birthday party. Your venue sounds beautiful, let it do the talking for you. This is a theme that shouldn't be overdone, maybe pick a few of these elements to implement.

I would just go with some woodsie centerpieces. For favors do a smores kit or something like that. Subtle is key.

I should have been more specific. I don't want to go "over-the-top" with this theme. I just want some cute outdoor/camping centerpiece and subtle decoration or any ideas anyone might have! I definitely don't want to be gaudy with it, just something a little different that's very personal to us. Smiley smile

Something like this might relate to your theme but won’t be too “over the top”

Lanterns with a wood slab under it and some greenery would look nice. I looked on pinterest under rustic lantern centerpiece and camping lantern centerpiece.

I would look into forest themes for ideas. I would personally so some lanterns (You could spray paint them any way you want) from $5 below and then search for some old looking canteens on resale sites or flea markets. I would prop the canteen up on the lantern and then have a lot of greenery like moss surrounding it.

These lanterns are only $5 if you also order something else over $25 (not hard when planning a wedding).

My wedding was a forest/mountain theme. I did chopped logs with various sized jars/candles, pinecones, and moss for the centerpieces. Had a s'mores bar and a campfire. I did a "booze canoe" and filled a canoe with alcohol. And a bunch of other little things.

Maybe hollow out wood branches to use as vases, with the bark attached? add feathers or wildflowers? the lanterns would be cute.

maybe you can incorporate plaids? people often associate plaid with camping... flannel and blankets and whatnot. they could be cute as elements or table toppers or runners... dont know how you feel about plaid but it could be a cute way to add a color scheme too. maybe a smores station at the reception or cocktail hour?

i feel like anything more than little touches like this would overload the decor and make the theme too obvious. you want it to show but not overwhelm.
