Can a jeweler "bend" my band to fit my e-ring more closely?

Mrs.M <3, on June 6, 2010 at 5:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

My band sits about a mm away from my e-ring because of the prongs, do you think there is any way that they could bend my band so it would be more of a snug fit? This ring is very similar to my band, but I don't have any good pics of my actual wedding band..the pic after is my e-ring..as you can see, it has bigger prongs and isn't straight across because of the 3 stones..

The problem is that you can bend the solid band part without much problem, but if you "bend" the part with the diamonds, which is where the bend needs to be, it might make the settings loose and you'd likely lose a stone or two. (NOT GOOD) I recommend going to a jeweler and asking them how they can do it or if they can make one that will work.

Hmm not sure if they can. I had to get a curved band to go w/my e-ring (pic on profile) b/c my center stone is set so low that I have the same type of thing going on that you do. They make a lot of gorgeous curved bands w/round diamonds like are in the band you have posted. In fact, I'm thinking my band might actually go w/your ring. I'm in my office now w/o a pic of my band so if when I get home later tonight I think it would work I'll post a pic on here for you. It's a white cold curved band w/channel set round diamonds.

I've tried many different bands with this ring, most looked terrible! The channel sets looked to plain against the milgrain edging, the milgrain edged channel sets didn't have the same milgrain type. None of the channel sets matched up from side to side. Finally I found my band, which is high enough to not be crowded out, and the stones match up from side to side. I suppose that if I can't have it bent that I could live with it. I am just so picky about jewelry!! LOL

As Shannon said, the solid portion of the band can easily be bent but the portion with the diamonds is the difficult side. They may have to take out all of the diamonds, then bend it & re-set the diamonds (I'm guessing). However the diamonds may not even fit once the band is bent. is there any way you can 'trade' it for a curved one? That's what I got.

I have the same problem and what I have is a thin plain band between the two rings to act as a spacer. It has worked for years. I have two problems my ring is a marque and the diamond goes outside of the band so I really needed some space in between.

Oh and you can hardly see the spacer gold band.

I worked in jewelry for a while and the short answer is no, that probably won't be a possibility. Even if someone offers to do this job for you I wouldn't let them because bending the setting in that way is going to destroy the integrity of the ring and the diamonds will not be secure.

If you really like the style of this ring see if there is a jeweler in the area that can do a custom piece for you based off of the shape of your e-ring using the band you have as a guide for what style you're going for. If you shop around you may be able to find someone who will do custom work for a decent price.

I bought my band at Jareds and they're actually "bending" my band to fit with the ring. I can post pics afterwards. Im supposed to pick it up tomorrow night. So it is doable. Ill attach a pic of my ring and the band that I purchased....as you can see the band is straight and it should be curved when I get it back.

If your jeweler is going to bend the part with the diamonds, I'd make sure that you have in writing what their responsibility is if the stones come lose. As in.. what kind of warranty or guarantee do they have. Make sure you know that BEFORE they bend it. It would suck if you lost a stone after you'd had the ring for 4 years, but if you lose one in just 4 weeks, they ought to offer some sort of warranty or guarantee if they're actually a reputable jeweler. If they won't offer anything, I'd think really hard about taking that risk. I'd rather have a wedding band that doesn't have the nice curve but still has all of the diamonds.
