Can anyone estimate of water weight for this vase?

Gee O. aka Happily Wifed Up, on March 20, 2012 at 11:22 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14

Its a 32" vase with 4.5" diameter. Has anyone used this vase or seen it somewhere and is able to calculate how many oz of water this will hold?

The whole idea is to get these water pearls but after reading the descriptions I figure there may be some maths involved in estimating how many packs I might need. So can anyone out there look at this vase and these water pearls and come up with an estimate of number of packs you think I would need to buy for 13 vases.

The pearls

Thanks!

I know it might be stressful to process so many thanks in advance.

A cylindrical shape that has a diameter of 4.5 inches and a depth of 32 inches has a volume of:

    Volume

    = 0.00834 cubic meters

    = 8340 cubic centimeters

    = 0.010908 cubic yards

    = 0.29452 cubic feet

    = 508.94 cubic inches

    = 2.2032 U.S. gallons

    = 8.34 liters

(so say math central volume calculator)

if each pack makes 6 gallons you need 6 to be safe.

Oh Wow That math looks like some hard core calculating right there! Thanks a lot! A friend quoted I would need 1 pack but 2 to be safe. Now I am totally confused because 2 packs and 6 packs is definitely a huge difference. However I originally was thinking 7 packs to be safe so when she said 1 pack, I kind of was shocked.

According to her, 1 gallon is the size of the regular water dispenser....I dint know that.

Well, I'm not guaranteeing the math- i used an online thing where you just plug in the numbers, and besides that 6 packs of 6 gallons is 36 gallons, and then divide that by 13 is 2.7, so just over the 2.2 it says it needs. Actually, you might be able to get away with just 5. honestly I'm not entirely sure on that part.

My vases are just a bit taller then yours and i was planning 3 gallons of water each.

Oh you have similar vases? Have you tried/done a mock up to see if it is really 3 gallons for yours?

Thanks so much for your assistance, really appreciate it

I think it would depend if you are using regular pearls or large. I think this is probably going to be a trial and error type thing. Good luck!

Are you filling these up all the way to the top?

Not really but very close to the top. So I am trying to get an estimate with the idea of filling to the top so I am on a safer end

I haven't done a trial yet, the vases are actually in another state as me right now.

    Well heres the math

    Volume of a cylinder(vase) = pi*r^2*h

    r= 2.25 " and h = 32"

volume of your vases(excluding the small change in diameter for trumpet style) = 508.68 in^3 = 2.2 gallons a vase.

2.2 gallons x 13 vases = Total volume of 28.62 gallons for all 13 vases

    28.62/6 = 4.77 packets.

    I would order 5.

I also assumed that the manufacturer's quote of 6 gallons, is the maximum size of the beads. Your link says the beads can vary from .25 to .38 " diameter. Not a huge deal since you don't plan on them all being full. Glad to help!

I tried to post on this morning but apparently it did not work. I didn't know if you had a dollar tree near you. I got the water pearls at the dollar tree for a centerpiece I did for a birthday party. They come in jars the size of maybe a large soup can. I thought at least you could get a couple to try & see how many it takes to fill you vase & figure out the ounces from there & see if the amazon price is better. Hope this helps.
