Can i really have Chili's at my wedding?

Tessa, on April 3, 2019 at 2:28 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16

I recently was on the Chili's website and noticed how freaking inexpensive their large party take out platters are. We are talking things such as salads, shrimp fajitas, salmon, chicken, pasta & garlic bread, truly the works with nothing listed for more than $90 per tray. This seems almost too good to be true. There is only 1 yelp review for my local Chili's that referenced the catering. Although it was a 5 star review, it was from almost 5 years ago.

Does anyone have any experience with Chili's large party platters? Any suggestions? Can I really buy trays from Chili's for a dang wedding?

*just a note, I would hire servers to set up & maintain the buffet line. I would also provide high quality disposables or possibly china & cutlery. I'd love to know if anyone has any experience with this restaurant in particular or what your overall feelings are on have a chili's tex mex buffet at a wedding.

We’ve gotten chili’s party platters twice before football Sunday parties we’ve thrown and they were honestly awful. Both times, by the time the food got to our house (we live 10 minutes away from the restaurant) after being picked up, it was already cold.

I would take 1 review from 5 years ago as a sign. There are plenty of other (better...) restaurants that are affordable and delicious and won't give you the runs....

I would look for a restaurant that has more experience catering events and the reviews to prove it

Yeah, I think I have to agree with PPs on this one. It does seem too good to be true, IMO.

Yeah...where do you live? You'd be surprised at the number of restaurants that offer catering. Call around to your local favorites and just ask. I wouldn't be opposed to chili's, but you probably want a setup that involves chafing dishes for a wedding. (For hot options.)

I'm not a Chili's fan in general, so it wouldn't be an option for me. My biggest concern would be the added cost of servers wouldn't even make sense for the cheap catering.

Sure!! why not? When my fiancee's daughter got married they catered from chicken shack, and it was a big hit. So much so we may do that too

I've gotten several quotes from caterers in my area and the best price so far has been $2,700. A full dinner from Chilis would be under $400 and my 2 servers are only $350 (plus a tip, so lets say $450) . So it is still an unbelieveable savings. Our budget is around 6k so spending almost $3k on catering would be hard on the budget. I'm just nervous about everything and watching my dollars.

Unfortunately, I live in Memphis. But if I live in Memphis and can't spit without hitting a restaurant that offers corporate catering, you're probably equally surrounded in San Diego. If you're willing to rent chafing dishes, look for places that will put the food in metal pans that can easily insert into standard chafing dishes.

When is your wedding? I'd love to hear how it goes! I've been to over 40 weddings and I feel like standard catering is always just okay. It's the convenience and stress free service that is what you are paying for and not the actual food. Chicken Shack sounds like a really fun wedding!

We are trying to find a venue to have it on October 19th. I've only been to one wedding that wasn't catered. The food was done my grandma and the brides family. It was still nice

A friend had our local BBQ place- Mission BBQ if you've heard of it- and it was a huge hit! The only person that didn't like it was a crabby aunt haha.

You can serve anything you want. Plus it's less expensive than wedding catering and you would know most people like it
