Can i uninvite my fiance from our reception planning?

Tammy, on February 4, 2020 at 1:25 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 31
My fiance had a "great idea" for a wedding favor ( not really). She wants to have a tattoo artist there and have him set up next to our photo booth, I'm like umm nooooooo!!! But the more I say no the more she begs me. Would it be trashy to have a tattoo artist at our reception or should I just put my foot down and stop her whining.

Well.. a tattoo artist would certainly be unique and memorable, but honestly, I see a LOT of issues with it. First of all, I don't think many people would make a snap decision to get a tattoo at someone else's wedding. There's a good chance that people who DO get tattoos have been drinking, and they could blame you later. PLUS you have to worry about having the appropriate sanitary set up to deal with proper disposal, being set up far away from food, guests bleeding? I think you should definitely explain the liability to your FH. What if, as a compromise, you had an artist do sketches, paintings, or characitures of guests? OR you could hire a henna artist. I think any of those ideas would be much better.

It would be a no from me, but only because I wanted everyone on the dance floor, not in line to get a tattoo.

That's cool but I don't know how many people would use it. However I had an idea of having a tattoo table before at mine.

I agree with all of this. I bet the venue might even say no--- can you use that as an excuse to get out of it? lol

I would say skip the tattoo artist. Not only would it be expensive, but I'd want my guests to be on the dance floor and socializing; not waiting in line for a tattoo. I do like Melle's idea though; having temporary tattoos available could be a better option. My issue with permanent tattoos is if you plan on having alcohol at the wedding, those who drink a little too much might get one they would regret in the morning.

A favor should be something that's available to every guest. Unless your list is <5 people, I don't see everyone getting one of these "favors." I don't necessarily think it's trashy, but it's not realistic. How about custom temporary tattoos from Etsy?

Not only that, but any reputable tattoo artist won't tattoo someone who has been drinking since alcohol thins the blood.

I know I'm being "that" person right now, but the OP referred to their future spouse with female pronouns several times in her post. Not everyone on WW is a straight female.

I am too Emily but I was on the fence if it would be a good idea then she said it will be a present for me and my tattoo loving friends.

You are totally right. I am so used to typing FH that I honestly forgot what it stood for. It won't let me edit my original post or I would fix it.

I think this is a bad idea for all of the reasons already stated. I agree that temporary tattoos would be a good alternative. Maybe she'll go for that?

It would be a hard no for me, but I’ve tried to be as fair about hearing fiancé’s ideas too (even when they are awful haha) if i were you I’d call the venue, it probably won’t even be allowed, it’s also a good point that a reputable tattoo artist won’t tattoo people that have been drinking. I think you’ll be able to get out of it that way.
And then have her come up with something else she loves. Maybe she’s just feeling like you’re doing most of the work and she wants something that’s her idea?

Well I know there will be around 20 people there that will get one or more tattoos but I'm still on the fence even though my fiance did say it was for me as a present

Temporary Wedding Tattoos Can i uninvite my fiance from our reception planning? 2

Have you seen the personalized temporary tattoos available? That's such a unique idea and I'd hate to shoot down an idea of my partner's, especially a memorable one that speaks to who we are as people. A station for temporary wedding tattoos might be a great compromise!

Wow! That's a know your crowd type of a situation. I know NONE of our guests would even entertain the idea (for reasons listed by many). And there are a lot of tattoo lovers in our circle. There is a time and a place for everything and not sure a wedding is one of those

True about the alcohol thing but like my mom and aunt said if my fiance is paying for it go ahead and do it everyone that goes to get one they are all adults and if they wake up with something they will regret it's on them. So I see it both ways so maybe I'll have a separate party for the tattoos and tell my fiance to get me something different..... maybe

I can't think of any tattoo artist that could or would do 20+ (quality) tattoos in a 4-5 hour reception. Perhaps a better alternative would be for your FW to get you a tattoo as a wedding gift.

I don't think this is realistic.
I say this as someone with zero tattoos. But they have studios for a reason. Sanitary standards, and all their stuff is there. Traveling with that much stuff could be a major issue.
Poor choices, alcohol, blood thinning, etc. I cant think a reputable tattoo artist would be on board.I cant think a venue would be on board.I think you might have to buy an insurance policy, and they wouldn't be on board either.Temporary tattoos would be cute tho!

Logistically speaking-the time it takes to do a proper tattoo including the prep, sanitary measures, and such you are looking at a minimum of a half hour per person and that is for a very small one. Additionally, is she paying for all of them? Or will she put something in the invite about there being a tattoo artist so people can plan money accordingly? Furthermore, are the guests going to be able to pick whatever tattoo they want? Or is it going to be a pick from a selection of predetermined options? I personally wouldn't pick a random tattoo design and I really wouldn't get a tattoo if I am in wedding appropriate attire.
