Can i use my marriage certificate to hyphenate my first and middle name?

I know you can skip the normal complicated court name change process with your wedding license to change your last name or hyphenate your last name. But I would like to take my husband’s last name, move my maiden name to my middle name, and make my first name and original middle name into a hyphenated first name. I hope this makes sense. Can I do this through the normal marriage name change process, or does that only work for last names?

That is something to ask the marriage license office in the state you are marrying in.

I think this depends state by state. I know in Iowa you can use it as an opportunity to pretty easily change your full name to whatever you want.

Second this. Some clerks have FAQs on their websites with the answer, or you may be able to tell by just looking at a copy of the application. I know that in California, you have to fill out the application online before you can pick up your license in person, and one of the categories allows you to change any or all portions of your name.

Depends on the state. In CA you can't touch your first or middle name which ticked me off because i've been wanting to change the spelling of my first name for 20 years
