Can i wear it ?

Jaydee, on May 31, 2019 at 7:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 46
Hello! So long story short, I’m going out of country in a few days and was advised not to wear my engagement ring (for safety purposes because you just never know) but, I feel so naked whenever I don’t wear it Smiley sad. I was wondering if it would be weird to wear just my wedding band in the meantime for my trip and then switch back to my engagement ring when I come back or just suck it up and not wear my ring overall Smiley sad.
Thank you in advance for the advices ❤️

I have a cheapish ring that I wear when we travel so I don't feel naked. Make sure you have your engagement ring insured just in case.

I think it depends on where you're going and how aware of your surroundings you are. You could wear the wedding band or get a cheap costume jewelry ring from like Claire's or something. Also, I think it depends on how big your engagement ring is. If you have like a 3 carat stone, sure, leave it at home. If it's under a carat, most people probably won't notice it.

It’s not big but I guess you can somewhat consider it “flashy”?
Where we’re going it’s not a horrible area, but a friend of my mom used to live there and she still advised not to wear our rings because sometimes people tend to steal from foreigners and whatnot.
I guess I just want to know whether it’d be “right” to wear my wedding band before being actually married ?

I think if you're comfortable with it, then yes. I would just check if there is still the same concern of it getting stolen as the engagement ring.

Birthstone ring? If someone sees a fake diamond ring they'll likely rob you anyway.

I would recommend a silicone ring for your travels.

I got a sterling silver CZ "dupe" ring from Kohls for like $20. I wear it when I'm traveling or if I'm doing heavy work (helping family move) or if I just generally don't want to call attention to myself by wearing a big old diamond. On regular days, I wear my real e-ring on the left and the CZ one on my right hand.

Here's a pic - real ring is on the bottom, dupe is on the top :

    Can i wear it ? 1

I would just not bring my ring at all. I did a mission trip in Tijuana last month and I left my ring all the way back in NJ! Not worth the risk in my opinion

I'd be more afraid of it getting lost than stolen in Spain honesty.
But like many people said there's silicone rings for travel and heavy lifting situations as well as fakes. It'd probably be worth it to get a fake or silicone band in the long run so you don't gotta worry about damaging the ring later too.

I have a silicone ring for travel and other times I feel like I may lose/damage my ring. I wouldn’t if I were you, sometimes you just never know. Better to feel naked for a few days than lose your ring forever.

I have a fake ring I wore because my fiancee and I went away a month after we got engaged too. It looks like an engagement ring from Kohl's, but it was like 50 bucks.

I understand the reasoning behind not wearing your ring but i get it. I also understand you saying you feel naked without it. So do I. I recommend you getting the plastic bands for your FH and yourself just to make sure nothing happens them. Also make sure your jewelry is insured.

Anytime I’m hanging out with my friends or FH doing something active and not wearing my ring I have to tell someone “when I freak out and think I lost my ring tell me I left it safe at home” 😂 I get the whole feeling naked without it thing. Maybe try a simple cheep ring, of silicone band which can also be good for when you’re doing something active (I’m going to get one, and so is FH for work).

Purchasing a silicone ring is a good option, as PPs have commented! I feel naked without my e - ring, too. Enso has pretty silicone rings that can look like the real thing

Insure your ring, wear it anyway, and just be aware of your surroundings.
