Can one of my Bridesmaid be a guy?

Katherine, on August 6, 2015 at 4:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I have a close guy friend, that is gay, and would like for him to be one of my bridesmaids. Is that even possible? Does it look weird? How can I include him?

Sure! Have him wear a suit (or dress, if he wears dresses) in the same colors (or the tie and such in the same colors). Have him stand on your side.

Heck Yeah! My FH is having his sister stand up with him as his "Best Man." It can be whoever you want it to be!

I agree with the other ladies - it's your wedding! I've been to a few weddings with "Grooms Maids" and "Brides Men" and I think it is awesome.

ETA - the last wedding I went to referred to them as that - you definitely don't have to lol.

You can have whoever you want, in whatever role you want. So long as you and the person in question are cool with the plan it's just about what will make you happy.

Yep! I'm standing up in a wedding in September that has 3 guys on the bride's side, and one girl on the groom's side!

ETA: She's calling them her "bridesmen" and "man of honor" Smiley smile

Sigh....what does his sexual orientation have to do with anything? Is he gonna be making out with a guy at the alter or something? Smh Put whoever you want in your BP so long as they are happy to accept.

Ooh I missed the gay comment - my eyes skipped over it and just read "guy" twice. I agree with @VM and @MrsButterflykisses. Sexual orientation isn't relevant. How close you are to him and how important it is for you to have him be a part of your day is the only thing that is relevant.

@MrsButterflykisses - LMAO! Even if he was making out with a guy while standing up with OP, sexual orientation wouldn't matter. That would be inappropriate behavior from anyone in the BP! If you think about it, would you put that kind of label in front of other members of the BP? "I'm thinking about having my straight female friend as a BM." While we are at, let's list all of the labels someone could attach to your BP "Hispanic, gay, short, balding, slightly awkward Bridesman" - Yup this helps me understand the situation much better. I'd say have him on your side, unless he's balding, that would totally change the situation, and ruin your pictures.

I'm sorry on how i phrased the question, @Mrsbutterflykisses and @VMDIZZLE . I didn't mean to make this issue about sexual orientation. Thanks for the info, I do appreciate it.
