Can stress really delay your period? **UPDATE IN COMMENTS**

LavenderJoy, on June 20, 2014 at 9:24 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 33

So I was due for my period on June 15th. I took a clear blue digital test on June 18 that said "Not Pregnant". Well now its June 20th and still no period. If any of you read my post earlier this week about weight loss, I did notice I gained 3 lbs even though I have been dieting and excersing. I have been have cramping on and off and I have had some nausea but I just chalked it up to something I ate.

I really don't think I'm preggo. I tested positive with both my kids the day of my missed period. I called my OB/GYN and they told me take another test in a week which will be June 25 and if it is still negative they want me to come in.

What do you ladies think may be going on? Is it possible its stress?

There are several different factors that can delay a period. For me, it's usually stress or if I start a new type of BC pill. Check this article out:

It could easily be stress. I battled infertility for longer than I care to remember so reproductive issues I know too much about. LOL The digital tests are NOT sensitive though. Actually the Dollar Store tests are pretty sensitive and I had great luck with First Response regular tests. Good luck to you.

I say take the test. The two times I was pregnant I tested positive when my period should have happened.

Yes, it could be stress, but we don't know your body like you do. None of us will have the answer.

TEST!! And then let us know. :-)

Yes, i was three weeks late in February. FH had told his dad that I was most likely prego and we were prepared, just waiting to see for sure and it turned out I wasn't and was just because I had been highly stressed.

Stress can definitely be a factor. It's happened to me a few times. I have issues getting my period sometimes and have gone 5 months without one (was not preggo). Of course when that happened, my GYN gave me progesterone pills to induce my period because my lining was too thick. I'm on birth control and it still doesn't always "regulate" me...even when I'm not stressed.

Yes!! Two months ago I was 2 weeks late (which worked out great because my period was due the week of the wedding) I took test after test after test and they were all negative, relaxed and it came. Smiley smile

Yes stress can cause it being late and it also can cause it being early. U can always take a pregnacy test though to rule that out.

It could be stress, are you on birth control?

I missed my period once, and freaked out because I'm not only on bc but also on a antidepressant. I was afraid of the side effects it would have on the baby if I was pregnant. Long story short, I made an appointment with my doctor, she told me sometimes we can skip a period but dont worry unless you miss two in a row.

Absolutely stress can do it! Along with a host of other weird things. For some reason, whenever I fly anywhere, it changes my cycle. Weird, right? (I'm not stressed about flying AT ALL, but it's happened for years and years.)

Yea girl! I was over a week late after my wedding (I actually was suppose to start on my wedding day-blessing in disguise). But no baby, just stress. I'm very regular and that threw me for a loop being late.

That was a really good article @MissMadeline! I can't believe all of that can affect your period.

@Disneynut- I have always taken digital tests because I don't want to "misread" the lines on non digital test.... And I'm just crazy and want to be assured with the "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant" result on the screen. I work in a health center and the nurse here told me to get a dollar store brand too because they are accurate.

I am going to test again next Wednesday ladies! I'm keeping my fingers crossed I am not preggo! I am thinking I have room in my dress (since I have not gotten alterations yet) if I am between 8-12 weeks preggo but anything more that I am going to have to get another dress!!!

For me it can go either way when dealing with stress. Sometimes my period is skipped altogether and other times my period will go on for weeks. I've been to the doctor and I don't have any cysts/polyps or other issues so its all stress. YAY! booo...

I'm on the pill and still skipped my period this month. I am ovulating (I can feel when I am) and that's when I feel bloated and gain like three pounds. I'm trying to think of ways to cut the bloat so it doesn't last as long as it usually does. I also cramp when I ovulate. I have had a lot of headaches and nausea the last few weeks, but my wedding is a lot sooner than yours.

I know for a fact I'm not pregnant, though, so that eases some of the stress. I'd say just wait again and take the test if it makes you feel better.

@Ashleigh- I am normally very regular so this is really mind-boggling to me. But I have been stressed alot lately with work and little things with the wedding.

@Summyya- no I am not on BC. I had gotten te Mirena after I had my daughter and LOVED it! I had it for almost 3 years. But 2 years ago at my annual visit I was told it was lodged sideways in my uterus and needed to come out. I was advised not to get another one. So we have been using the good old Russian Roulette (pull-out) method ever since.

@LavenderJoy, omg i had the mirena too, mine fell out when i came on my period, i guess they aint worth jack huh. They told me I couldnt get another one too. I went back on the shot, now I'm just on the pill. I wouldnt stress to much, if its really bothering you make a doctors appointment and have a blood test done. Good luck

Stress, travel, a big change in your schedule... etc there are SOO many things that can affect your system. Two years ago I graduated college, moved in with FH, got a promotion at work and changed shifts from part time nights to full time days, and we went to Paris for a week (all within one month)... I missed my period for 3 months. I was freaking but the dr said it's completely normal expecially with a major change in life (which I was going through quite a few at the time) I wouldn't be too concerned but if you are just go to your dr.
