Can we talk red lipstick?

OG Kristen, on June 26, 2015 at 3:12 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 35

I'm dead set on red lips for the wedding, but everyone is trying to talk me out of it. My MUA (who is a friend of mine) told me she'll do it, but it's going to get all over everything. Everyone else that I've bounced the idea off of other than friends my age think it's too bold. I wear bold lipstick every day, and wear reds at least once or twice a week. I just think a subtle pale pink or nude just isn't me.

I know we've been through this before, but what are everyone's thoughts on red lips at the wedding?

I'm doing red lips for my wedding. My MUA is using OCC Lip Tar. Once it dries, it'll stay put.

FH requested red lipstick for our weddingSmiley smile I made a thread about this a while back and got some great tips that gave me hope that I could totally use lip stain and be fine...following this to glean any more knowledge that may be had.

One of my coworkers wears red daily and it never seems to fade. I asked her what brand it is and its Nars. She swears by it!

Like SLE to SLG said, I'd look into an alternative lip color. Have you considered a lip stain?

I'm using superstay 24 from Maybelline every now and then and I'm having more problems getting it off at the end of the night than getting it on anything. And the balm that they have to lock the color in is pretty nice for smooth lips.

I say go bold. I am a frequent lipstick wearer, and I love bold coloured lipstick. I say you should totally rock red lips for the day!

@Corinne, that's what I use every day as well. I can't find the perfect shade of red in that line that I'm looking for though. I know what you're talking about, hard to get off some days!

I'm normally using makeup remover for waterproof mascara to get it off, but if that's not around for some reason, it's really hard.

I have to look at home what shade it is, but I really love it.

When I wear lipstick... It's red. Revlon Color Stay is the way to go. It's almost painful to get it off.

Has anyone ever used a sealant that works over any lip color? I'm wondering if something like this would be worth it

    Do it.

You won't be satsified with anything else if you want a red. You're just going to be annoyed.

I hate this concept that your make up has to be neutral. If you aren't a neutral wearing person day to day why would you be for your wedding? DOOOOEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTT

Rock that shit. Just make sure you either set it with powder or get a super stay/long wearing/ or lip stain one. You'll be fine- and make sure you task hubby/BM with lip checks. it's not that big of a hassle.

I wear bright fuchsia lipstick almost every day - I get tons of compliments on it. I use Clinique but it is not "long lasting" just normal lipstick.

I totally forgot- Sephora has some really great lippies that are only like 12.50 a pop- I have a really nice fuscia/pink one that's surprisingly long wearing and smells good too. (I hate bad smelling lipstick).

also- matte's usually the way to go.

And don't get a gloss if you're using a veil- or having a hair down situation... if something can stick to your gloss- it will LOL

I'm not wearing red but I'm doing something bold. I did a fuchsia color for my trial and loved it. Matte lipstick is the way to go. Probably a red lip stain or Mac Ruby Woo (it's drying as hell though). Another option is :conceal your lips (for true color to come through), use lip liner as a base to fill in lips (similar to lip color), put on the lipstick, blot, put a translucent powder on lips, put lipstick on again and repeat steps 3-5! Seems like a lot but your lipstick should stay put!!

If you wear bold everyday, go for the bold. Like you said, you won't look like you if you don't.
