Can you enlarge the chest area of your dress?

Priscila, on March 25, 2014 at 11:35 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15

Hi girls!

I found the perfect dress today but I got so sad when I tried it. I'm a very short girl but I have big breasts. I am usually size 2 an the dress is a size 8. The closest one that fit on me but my breasts won't fit.

Is it possible to make the chest area of the dress bigger?

It will really depend on the specific dress and how it is constructed. A seamstress would be able to tell you by looking at it.

Today I went back to the store and took a picture of the dress(hope it won't give me bad luck!). I'm posting here so you can please give me any suggestions of what can be done to nake my breasts fit in it. It is not much, about 6 inches to stretch.

I've called a couple of alterations places today and some suggested to remove the ziper in the back and do as a corset. I am thinking about removing it and put sone stretchy fabric or somethibg like that. I am a size 2 girl, but I have large breasts and the dress is for a size 8 and unfortunately the only one that came close to fit me because of them

Any suggestions of what can be done? I'm a sad bride at the moment!

Do what the alterations people suggested. They'll make it look good.

Also bridal sizing is not real sizing.

I agree with CeCe... bridal sizes are not accurate so don't get all hung up about the number. Can you not order the dress in a bigger size and then just get the waist taken in? I had to do that because of my chest.

Otherwise, making the back a corset sounds like a good plan. It gives you flexibility to make it bigger or smaller. I'm not sure what you mean by stretchy fabric, but honestly, that doesn't sound like it would look nice. I can't see how that would suit a wedding dress really. I would think a corset would look more appropriate.

I really cant afford ordering a dress. The budget for my wedding is pretty short and most of it is already the dress :/

So I really don't have much options for it. The dress i'm getting doesn't have cleavage, I thought it wouldnot be appropriate since the size of my breasts.

i am definetly considering the corset idea. Gonna get the dress tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

Oh and I forgot to mention. The dress is from a second hand clothes store. I know, sounds lame but I really can't afford a brand new dress and is a tradition of my country to buy your dress.

So basically, you can't buy a bigger dress and have it taken in because there is NO other dress available? It's a beaded, detailed dress so I think your only options are to

1 - find another dress that you can afford to have it tailored

2 - get a corset put into this one

Agreed with OTW. I'm still confused as to why you're having trouble deciding if you should buy a dress that doesn't fit or not...

What is your budget? You can go buy something off the rack at David's Bridal.

I'm sorry but I'm starting to feel like I'm being judged because of my busget condition...

I'm also working on my weight loss and is not really that much that I need to lose so I can be able to fit in it, but I want to have a backup plan in case still have some size to lose.

I'm really embarrassed now for posting here. I just wanted suggestions of what to do, not be judged for what I can't afford.

We judge people when they are gift grabby not when they are budget brides. We have PLENTY of budget brides on this forum. We're just trying to understand your situation.

You like a dress that is within your budget, but yet it doesn't fit you. We're giving you options on what you can do.

I don't think anyone was really judging you... Some of your posts were unclear and we didn't know where you were getting your dress.

Everyone has basically said that your options are to find another dress, or get a corset put in. If you love this dress and a corset would solve your problems, then go for that. Good luck...

Sorry for not be able to be more clear. English is not my mother language and I tried to explain as I could. I do not want to reveal my budget because it is embarrassing for me of how cheap I want to do my wedding, specially after seeing other budget brides abd I don't want to be judged again.

I decided to do the corset back. I'll post pictures of the before and after when the dress is ready.

    Thanks all.

I am just like you! I am a size 2 and the dress i purchased because of my boob size was a size 8. Since it is a corset back it is easier to manage then having a zip up or button back. they are going to have to take it in around my waist and my hips but that was the only size that fit me properly in the bust area. It stinks and more alterations costs but the corset back really helped the situation.

Don't be embarrassed. I got my dress by trading a few video games to the girl that owned it. I could not afford to buy a new dress.
