Can you plan a wedding in 4 months?

Lisa, on May 16, 2024 at 1:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

We got engaged 6 months ago and honestly have been so busy with work and so many things that we realized time flew by and we never planned the wedding. Now, it's may and we wanted to get married this year in september b/c we've been together forever and just want to move forward in life so i'm considering planning this in 4 months. People think i'm crazy, but is it really that bad? We have decided on a venue that serves food/drink and does the ceremony already and we know our officiant, DJ, and wedding coordinator. We also have talked to multiple photographers and they are all available for our date so really it's just the florist, which i'm fine with costco flowers so i'm not that worried about that. My friends do want to do a bachelorette, but it will be a 2 night thing so nothing crazy. We also know we will order our invites on Zazzle and already have the save the dates ready and the wedding website ready. The venue doesn't need much decor b/c it's on the ocean with white roses already. I have gone to several dress places and they say they can have the dresses I liked ready by August or some of them can have it by June 1st. I already have a checklist of things we need to do, made the song list, our bridal party knows they are in our bridal party. I feel like we can pull this off and be able to move forward in our lives....but am i missing something? People look at me like i'm crazy. What am i missing? *hoping for positivity and reassurance here, b/c i'm nervous*

I know some couples who did it in 5 months, so you absolutely can! Your biggest issue will be if vendors are already booked for the date you want. I would reach out to your venue and anyone else you want ASAP and ask them their availability. Be willing to consider less popular dates such as Sundays. The instant you have a contract signed, send out an email to your guests informing them of the date. Unfortunately with such short notice, people may have other plans, but the sooner you tell them, the better.

Yes, this can be done. Much of planning is booking venue then vendors and acquiring attire which can even be purchased off the rack. Everything else is waiting then creating invites. Some couples take longer just to save for the expenses, but if this is not necessary you can proceed with your own calendar. Just as Jasmine notes, some guests may already have plans, but that's the issue with all weddings no matter the notice timeframe. Best wishes!

Countless couples do. It depends on your priorities. A quicker wedding will be more intimate with less frills.

Send save the dates by phone immediately to those whom you want to attend and invitations at the standard 6-8 weeks. Don’t mail them and they will get lost in emails. Those who want to attend will find a way. It can be done easily and don’t let anyone tell you that it can’t.

I definitely think it can be done. Although we had eleven months to plan our wedding, nearly everything was completed within the first few months. They last few months were just a bunch of waiting and last minute details. I had everything booked within two months of being engaged. The only other things I didn't see mentioned were suits/tuxes for the groom and groomsmen and hair and makeup. My sister-in-law forgot about hair and makeup and we scrabbled about a month beforehand to get that booked.

You can definitely do it - it sounds like you pretty much have a plan and just need to get things booked. Still plenty of time to send save the dates and invites. Do it!

It’s definitely possible. It sounds like you’ve already considered the biggest blocks to doing it fast, mostly getting a dress in time, so you’re good to go! Don’t let people talk you into making it more complicated than you want.

The only thing I’d rush is make sure you get out your save the dates ASAP, since they’d usually be out by now.

It sounds like you should have no trouble planning within this time frame. The most common reasons people have long engagements is because they need the time to plan, which you’ve done, the desired venues or vendors are booked way ahead, or they need time to save up. If none of those things apply you should be in very good shape.

I know you said time flew by and you didn’t plan your wedding, but it sounds like you really did! You already have your venue and all your vendors selected. I would say just lock them all in with a contract and payment and get those save the dates out ASAP!

I think you're actually nearly done planning! Re-check your budget and guest list then lock all of this down with deposits and you're done!
