Can you put fake pearls in water?

STB Mrs Van Blargan, on August 16, 2010 at 4:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I am making up a mock centerpiece and I was wondering if I can put fake pearls on the bottom of a vase and put water in it, with a floating candle on top?? Would anything happen to the glass pearls?

I'm sure they are fine in just water, but not sure if they will float or not. It depends what they're made of. As far as glass, just try it out and see!

I think if they were left in water for a long? time, the pearly finish might come off. Can you test a few?

There are a few things that can happen. So your going to have to try it out. the finishing may start to come off and they usually float. However you can fix both of these issues very easily. Just put a couple coats of clear nail polish on the pearls. If they still float add more coats of the nail polish.

Hmmm i really dont know what would happen. i know the plastic ones the coating would come off but glass i dont think would. i dont know what your doing with them exactly, but if you could get different size/weights(and they float) get some heavy ones(or add the polish) and make them float at different levels. just my idea/thought

Yes you can. do you mean loose ones or the beaded ones? some of the loose ones float but the beaded ones sink.
