Private User, on May 20, 2011 at 10:51 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9

Can you spray paint invitations? I have plain paper and want to make it a gold. But will it work or just ex the whole idea?

Umm... I haven't the slightest clue... I suppose it may work if the paper is thick enough/heavy duty enough. I mean, if it is just a regular piece of computer paper or perhaps even thin construction paper - I would imagine that anything wet would make it wrinkle/get wavy/etc.

I wouldn't recommend it. (sp? lol) I've had experience with spray paint and it leaves a residue that WILL rub off. Plus it smells icky even after you let it dry. If I were to open an invite that left my hands gold and smelled like it was dipped in chemicals I would not be inclined to touch it again. Have you tried a stationary store? or and arts and crafts store sells card stock.

Carole B added gold to the edge of her invites... let me find her thread...

Her FH hand gold gilded them with gold pinstriping one would buy at a car parts place.

I don't think you can spray paint paper, no matter how heavy it is. However, you can paint it- it just won't hold it's shape as well after.

If you want the paper gold, I'd skip the idea and just buy gold paper...

I'm an artist. You can spraypaint on paper but it should be heavy-duty. I'd use water-color paper and make sure it's of decent quality. My fiance does spraypaint art. The guy in this video is not my fiance lol, but he is spraypainting on paper. Air-dry it for a few days to see how strong the smell is. I might also try priming it and then using a gloss spray at the end to make it set so that it doesn't flake off or feel gritty. You can also try talking to someone at Michaels or another type of art store and see what they recommend. You can always Febreeze the, just don't spray directly onto the paper. Spray into a fan and let it waft otherwise you might get blotches on the paper that might not go away. Definitely create different samples though so you know what works the best. If all else fails, or if you don't have the patience, then go buy gold paper lol. Good luck!

Nice Hayley. Just goes to show you can find wedding art supplies in unthought of places. My fiance got his inspiration from the type of masking they do on cars. Guitars, computer cases, and plexi and regular glass panes are his common surfaces.

I think anything is game in DIY. You should test it out and see. I think that a light spray to give it just that hint of gold might work.

I wouldn't recommend it... it would be a lot of work and cost to get it to hold up and not wrinkle. I bought my white linen metallic cardstock from paperandmore.com and they offer it in gold. I would recommend buying a sample (they arri very quickly!!) and seeing if it would meet your needs!

I would also try jampaper.com, they have a huge assortment of different types of paper, it's where I'm going to go for the paper and stuff for my invites and such
