Can you submerge blue orchids

Cassandra, on July 11, 2012 at 1:09 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

I am wanting to use blue orchids in my centerpieces and I will need to submerge them in water to do so. I was just curious if since they are dyed if the color will run into the water and ruin both the flowers and the look of the centerpieces themselves.

I would say, get one and try it. Just use a glass of water and see if the color runs.

I have been trying to find somewhere that I can purchase only two sprays of the orchids, unfortunately the only blue orchids I have found only come in wholesale and I do not want to pay $160.00 to be sent 60 stems.

Talk to your local florist. Just call and ask them if they bleed, or ask to buy a spray.

I do agree, I think they would bleed.

What about doing silk? the silk stayed in the water for me for over 24 hours. there was never any bleeding, but with real flowers I would think there would be if they were painted that way

I think Justine A has a good idea by using the silk flowers. They are very realistic to begin with, but then having them submerged you probably will not be able to tell they are fake.

The dye will run and bleed. I agree with Justine & Amber - the silk flowers submerged would look lovely, and honestly you can't tell if they are real or fake at that point.

Even some silk flowers bleed. You really just need to get one and try it out.
