Just Said Yes October 2022

Cancel hair/mua

Had signed a contract for a hair and make up artist months ago. Really liked the hair stylist but she unfortunately resigned which left me to get rebooked with the another stylist available at the company. Went for the trial and was not impressed. Asked if they had any other stylists and was told they are fully booked for my wedding date. I paid half the deposit already but in the contract it said non refundable. However if the hair stylist changed and I’m unhappy how do I go about getting my money back or is it a lost cause?

You could plead your case to the owner of the business, and hope that they will be understanding and return the money. However, if the contract says non-negotiable, it’s likely you are going to have to forfeit that money if you do not use their services.

Generally in these circumstances as the company you booked with is able to provide the services willingly and you have had a change of mind due to not liking the new stylist, your remedies are likely to be limited to those in the contract, if any.

As the deposit is non-refundable, I don't think you will be able to do much other than cut your losses and lose the deposit in favour of a new vendor.

Do you think perhaps if you were to give the stylist some constructive feedback they could subsequently do your hair and makeup how you'd like?

Does the contract specify the original stylist was who would be providing services? That may give you some leverage to plead your case. Otherwise you're probably stuck with whatever the contract says about reimbursement (if anything).

Was there something specific you didn't like about the style? Like the PP mentioned, maybe some feedback would be able to get you to the style you had envisioned without having to eat your deposit and find a new vendor.
