Cancel Punta Cana Honeymoon?

Sarah, on June 11, 2019 at 6:32 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 10
Like many others, I’ve been reading up on the now 6 mysterious American deaths in the Dominican. My fiancé and I are set to spend 8 nights at the TRS Turquesa in September after our wedding. After all that’s been going on, not sure if I should be talking to my travel agent about moving to a different location?

We have a swim up room at what looks like an amazing resort, but now the part of the wedding I’ve been the most excited about is causing me the most anxiety. Any advice (or anything anyone has that would ease my mind) would be a huge help!

You have to decide what your most comfortable with. I completely understand your hesitation. I was planning to get married there but changed my mind due to cost and part of me is happy I did. With that being said things happen everywhere all the time. I have had a couple friends travel there and not have issues so what to do right? If your able to change your trip without penalty I might do it for peace of mind.

It’s totally up to you. As Melissa said, things happened everywhere. 2 of those deaths were a car accident that the couple had while driving to the airport, they basically drove to the ocean.

We had our wedding in April Boca Chica and our honeymoon in Punta Cana. Our guests stayed in Santo Domingo, they rented cars and nothing happened to anybody. But if you don’t feel safe, that’s up to you to cancel.

I’m planning my destination wedding for May 2020 in Punta Cana too. Of course with all these news stories my guests are starting to get nervous. The way I’ve started to ease my anxiety is joining a fb page for the specific resort we’re going to and I’ve heard nothing negative about them. Just remember that bad things happen everywhere and as long a you practice safe actions on your part you will be ok. Don’t be alone in unknown places, don’t use drugs overseas, and make sure that the liquor in the mini bar in the rooms are all sealed. From what I’ve read some of those liquor bottles weren’t sealed in the mini bar. I know the resort we’re going to everything is brand new in the mini bar. Enjoy your vacation!

We were suppose to go after our anniversary but ending up cancelling. I hated it because I really wanted to go but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I'd definitely talk with travel agent. I'm sure he or she has a lot of other options for you that will be just as memorable. You don't want to go and he on edge the whole time. Plus, it's very hinky what's going on...

I was booked there as well. With the level 2 travel ban, our travel agent was able to give us a total refund. Yes, things can happen anywhere- all of these illnesses and deaths are too coincidental. Rather be safe than sorry especially on your honeymoon

People turn up dead everywhere everyday. It's a sad but truly sobering fact. Considering how many destination weddings there are there every year, ten only sounds scary until you figure the thousands that came home with beautiful memories. Do what feels right and follow your gut instinct. It knows best.

Our honeymoon is also booked for the TRS Turquesa, and we're still going when we planned in July! I, too, had a moment of "should I worry?" But I have been apart of the TRS Turquesa Hotel Punta Cana Fans Facebook page since we booked in November, and I'm no longer nervous. Not once have I ever seen a post about someone fearing for their life at this resort.

You have to be smart, always be aware of your surroundings and never go anywhere alone. The bottles of liquor you receive in the room come sealed. If they aren't ask for sealed bottles. I think bad things happen everywhere, and you just have to make sure you're being smart in your decisions and trusting your gut.

I hope you still go and enjoy your time! I'm SO excited for our honeymoon at TRS, and have heard nothing but amazing things from previous honeymooners!

I understand where you're coming from, but we all lived life in fear of something bad happening, we would never enjoy life. Sorry you felt too unsafe and felt you needed to cancel. I hope you're able to plan another great anniversary vacation elsewhere!Smiley heart
