Canceled Honeymoon

Ali, on October 1, 2020 at 9:05 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13
Has anyone not done a honeymoon directly after the wedding? Because of COIVD, FH getting laid off earlier this year and me just starting a new job our finances are a little tighter than expected.

We decided to just cancel our honeymoon all together as we can't afford to take that much time off right now (we are also trying to get a place of our own but currently living with my parents) and wasn't sure if I'd be guaranteed the time off.
So we plan on doing like 4 days later next year on the Outer Banks in our state of NC. It sucks and we are both sad that we made this decision but we felt like it was the best thing to do. Getting a place was more important to us even though we were really looking forward to our FL honeymoon since we both have never been.
Anyone else cancel or postpone/move their honeymoon? Just feeling a little down.

My fiancé and I are getting married in a destination wedding in January. We are not planning to go on our honeymoon until the spring or when things get back to normal (I.e., countries lift the travel ban on Americans. Lol). However, we are doing a minimoon for a couple of days after the wedding at our destination wedding location. It’s only 5 hours away from where we will live, but it’s still a little time away and together after the wedding and before we come back home.

We won’t be taking a honeymoon immediately after our wedding either. We have had to reschedule our wedding from November 2020 to November 2021. We are having a destination wedding (within the U.S., not abroad) and will be there that whole week. Unfortunately, my fiancé will be on call for work starting the day after we return, and they do not have an option of requesting off, taking vacations, etc. from mid-November to mid-March, so taking a honeymoon after the wedding is now out of the question. Plus, I have been out of work since April due to the pandemic, so we are now down to one income. So taking a big honeymoon probably wouldn’t have been in the cards for us anymore anyway. Instead, we will be doing our “honeymoon” on our one year anniversary. At first I was bummed, but I think it’s a great way to celebrate your first year of marriage! Plus, it will give us a whole year to save money and be able to have an even better trip without causing any financial hardships by trying to force it now.

We scheduled our honeymoon to next year, but we were going to do a minimoon after our wedding, but after Hurricane Sally we don't have much PTO left so we've decided to cancel the minimoon and just wait until our honeymoon next year.

We had to cancel a Hawaii honeymoon back in April about a week before we were set to go, at that time flights were grounded. After so much itinery planning, preparing and packing for our dream trip, booking of various flights, hotels, excursions it was a dissapointment. Luckily we got refunded for all deposits and flights. Not sure if we will ever end up making the trip, since I am now pregnant! So money will likely go towards baby expenses now, but we are just as happy as always anyways!

We're also not taking a honeymoon right now. Similar: FH was laid off and money is tight, and I can't take time off work right now. We're going to wait until next year and take a few days when I have vacation time and it won't hurt us.

Totally understand. We rarely get time alone away together. It sounds very nice.

That's a good idea and I'm sorry that you had to deal with all of that and postponing. I never thought about waiting for a year but it's a good idea.

We got married last August, and didn't take our honeymoon until January.

Partly because we both worked service/entertainment jobs at the time, partly for finances, and partly because we went to Disney, and the WORST time to go is... August! So, we went when it's less busy, and freezing at home. (Figures, it was the coldest week Florida had seen in decades... but it was *still* warmer than NYC. Locals were shivering and DH and I were wearing sweatshirts.)

We originally wanted to go to Puerto Rico in February (so I can save my hours), but has each month passed by it looks less hopeful. Immediately after our wedding, I told my husband let’s just take a little getaway, me &you without the kids just in case we can’t go somewhere. He was okay with it and we settled on a 4day/ 3 night trip to Denver. We leave in 2 weeks 🤷🏽‍♀️

We’re only going to be gone for Saturday night through Monday lunch. I’m a teacher and in NC, we don’t get much personal time when kids are in session. So this was the plan even before COVID.
We haven’t made any actual plans, but I’d like to do something bigger over spring break or next summer, but not sure yet.

Currently a caretaker so was unable to get away for even the weekend. Been living vicariously through travel vloggers though. Hoping to make it to Asia when this all over. Dream honeymoon would be Dubai, Maldives and then a tour of SE Asia!

Thay sounds amazing! My FH dream honeymoon is Tahiti or Greece. Mine would be somewhere tropical like Fiji but he also mentioned traveling to Jamaica for our one year anniversary. I really want to go to Italy. Just wanna travel but don't have the money lol
