Canceled our big July wedding because of covid19

Danielle, on March 29, 2020 at 10:50 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
Hello all,
FH and I decided tonight to cancel our large July 18 wedding and make it a small wedding with a restaurant reception afterwards. With everything being shut down through April 30th at least, it would put way too much scrambling around on us (dress alterations, rings, etc..) for the last minute. We didn’t feel we could send invitations out in the midst of this and get a good response so our guest list went from around 100 to 30 people. We also didn’t want to push things out a whole year. We are hopeful and positive that it will be even more intimate and meaningful. Has anyone else been considering this?

    I think that's a great compromise!
Our wedding is August 8th and we really don't have any planning left other than his ring and the groomsmen suits. At this point if things continue down the same path he will order a stand-in ring online and tell the guys just to wear whatever dark blue suit they have or can get. We are just continuing on as per usual. We are sending a note with our invites saying something like "we are monitoring the situation closely but please RSVP by ___ with the assumption that everything will have returned to normal by then. Rest assured we will make a decision by ___ date as your health and comfort is our priority". Luckily people can book the hotel rooms for our wedding without payment. So it's easy to cancel if need be. Best of luck to you!

Hi there, so sorry you are going through this too, you're not alone! I've just posted a lengthy message regarding this issue. I think it would really help you to read it.

I'm sorry to hear about the extra work and worry you've had on your plate, but your plan sounds like a smart one. I hope it's given you some relief Smiley heart How did your guests react to the change?

It feels like a huge weight lifted off. I feel like we will enjoy our day even more now and if we still end up needing to move it it will be much easier to do so. The guests we’ve told so far feel bad for us but agree it’s probably better. I just sent out a little note to everyone today letting them know what’s going on I’m sure they will all understand. We were able to get all our deposits back from vendors we canceled they were all very nice about it so that’s a bonus.
