Canceling Honeymoon in punta Cana??

My husband and I just got back from there at the end of May. We also stayed at Iberostar Grand Bavaro. We drank at the drinks, went on an excursion, had an absolutely amazing time. This was right before everything about the deaths came out.

Heres how I would think about it. Let’s say you don’t cancel and you get there. You’re constantly worried and it ruins your time. In that case I would cancel. Otherwise, I honestly think the DR is as safe as any third world country, just be very cautious, stay on resort property, don’t go anywhere by yourself at night, and if something feels wrong act!

I’ve been to countries far more dangerous and did not have issues there either. Be savvy!

I would consider doing some more research about where people who have gotten sick/died stayed at. If there were any issues at your resort then I would consider other options. If not, then you at least know where and what to avoid while you're there. Better safe than sorry.

I'd like to know what caused the deaths personally before making any moves and if it is only Americans. Media reporting can be strange and ignore/not include the whole picture.

I think though if you feel uncomfortable then you should look to change your arrangements as soon as possible while you can still do so.

Im having this exact issue except we booked our wedding and now the guests don't want to make their deposits since all of the news. I'm feeling forced to cancel and I'm going to lose my deposits.

I am going to Punta Cana for my honeymoon next month. We talked about it a lot and went back and forth, and we decided we are going to go. As a previous poster said, if you don't think you will be able to enjoy yourself and you'll be consumed with anxiety, it's probably best not to go. While I'm a little nervous, I'm also a little skeptical on if there really is something going on. The DR also gets a lot of tourists from other countries like the UK and Canada, but the media is only reporting American deaths (even British news appears to only be reporting American deaths). Also, aside from multiple reports at Hard Rock (I'd probably stay away from there for a bit, and I've actually been there twice over the years), it's mostly been 1 person per resort, which also doesn't show a strong pattern for poisoning or bootleg liquor or anything like that. The FBI is saying they will release their report by mid-July so hopefully we'll have more answers soon.

View Quoted Comment Yes Hopefully we can hear more info soon! I’ve traveled a lot so the crime isn’t that stressing but the fact that something might be up with their alcohol/drinks makes me nervous! Because I know I’ll want to enjoy some drinks!
