Cancelling hair and makeup artist?

Noelle, on November 17, 2019 at 8:20 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 5
Hi ladies!
My fiancé and I got engaged last winter and are getting married this July 2020. I booked a hair and makeup artist to come work with me and my bridesmaids because I thought it would take some of the stress off everyone. They required a $150 deposit at the time of booking. I typically do my own hair/makeup for formal events but wanted to try working with an artist. I had a trial last week (early I know, but I wanted to make sure I liked everything) and I didn’t like the way my hair or makeup looked at all! I asked for a very natural, bohemian type of look since my wedding is in the summer and ended up getting a very heavy, dark, full glam look. I didn’t look anything like myself! I did tell the hair and makeup artist the look was not what I was going for, but they didn’t really offer to fix it at my trial. At this point, I think I’d be more comfortable cancelling these artists and doing my own makeup and having my regular hair dresser do my hair at the salon, but I feel bad cancelling! Has anyone been through something similar and have advice?

I would just send an e-mail stating that you’ve decided to go on a different direction and will no longer require their services.

Don’t feel bad. It’s not personal.

I’d say you should cancel it, if you already told them you were not happy with it and they refused to fix it, it wouldn’t be much different at the wedding. Cut your losses. I actually just cancelled my photographer because she did the opposite of what I wanted when it came to editing the photos for the engagement shoot, and though it pained me to lose the deposit money, I cancelled her for the wedding and will go with a more reliable photographer.

Don’t feel bad at all. If you didn’t like it and she didn’t offer to do something different then she wasn’t listening to you and you aren’t going to be happy.

Don't feel bad. It's business, it's not personal. They deal with cancellations all the time. Just tell them you've decided to go in a different direction.

If you already paid a deposit, gave the trial a go, and didn't like it and the MUA/stylist wasn't receptive to feedback, then you should definitely cut ties and not worry about it. They've already gotten their money, and if they weren't willing to hear your opinion it's unlikely they'll suddenly create a look you love on your wedding day.
