Cancelling our wedding. What do i do with my wedding dress and veil?

Jessica, on December 2, 2020 at 4:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 109

SO - due to Covid restrictions now in place in New Jersey, we are cancelling our March 2021 wedding. We will likely be going the city hall route, instead.

I spent a ton of money on my [dream] wedding dress and veil that I absolutely adore - but feel I would look absolutely silly going to City Hall in it. As a Covid bride, having everything taken away, I feel like I can't let this pandemic take my dream wedding dress moment away, too! Would I look like an idiot if I wore them??

For those of you who are pivoting and changing up your wedding - what are you doing with your wedding dresses?!

XO,

Heartbroken Bride

I have q few friends who went to the city hall with huge dress and even a limo. Why not 🤷🏻‍♀️ I would say wear your dream dress, and take lots of pictures! ❤️

I personally don't see the harm of wearing it to your city hall and at least taking wedding photos in it!!

after that you can totally try to sell it on sites and apps

Yeah, I suppose I could. I had hoped to preserve it after our big wedding, but I guess what's the point of preserving it if it's attached to crappy sad memories of the wedding I didn't get to have LOL

I would honestly wear it. Its your wedding day regardless of where you have the wedding. Plus you can still have wedding photos taken!

That's comforting - I feel like all the city hall wedding videos on YouTube show women in short dresses which I really don't want for my day...

Yeah, my first "fitting" is next weekend - I guess I should just go through with all the alterations and wear the damn thing!

Your dress is FINE for city hall! It’s not even a huge ballgown with a royal train—fine to wear anyway. Wear your dream dress and maybe enjoy a fabulous photo shoot around town after your city hall nuptials!!!

Thanks for your advice! I was really doubting wearing this gown there but I guess it'll do!

ABSOLUTELY! That dress is amazing and you deserve to wear it! It would be awful for you to regret not having a moment in your dream dress years later!

UGH I know. It feels so selfish and out of tune with everything going on in the world that I'm over here crying over my wedding. I think having the chance to wear the dress will help, though!

I think you should still wear it. Also you should take bridal portraits (if you’re into that) and y’all should still take pictures in your wedding attire.

Man, I could cry. Thank you for your kind words! You're right. Not sure why I care so much about what people think anyway. Smiley smile

Wear the dress! And afterwards go get some professional pictures taken in your wedding attire. I don’t think it’d be silly at all. Don’t worry about what others may think; it’s your special day. It’s so, so beautiful!

Wear it! If you’ve already paid your photographer, see if you can schedule a “day after” shoot somewhere! I did that and am so happy with the resulting pictures.

I say wear the dress! if I were in your shoes, I would wear the dress and keep the photographer and do a cute photo shoot around town. Our photographer actually did one of these not too long ago. I will include a link to it. It turned out super cute!https://juliamaruyamaphotography.com/blog/2019/1/27/jacob-amp-hailey-winter-courthouse-chicago-elopement

This year has been a journey... I was supposed to get married summer 2020 but my fiance and I postponed due to the pandemic. My dress was then damaged in the September wildfires. I'm not over any of it at all, but sometimes the world forces us to let things go...

We're going the court house route, but we're doing a vow renewal in 2022 and I'll be wearing my big, beautiful wedding gown for that event instead. Your dress is beautiful by the way Smiley love
