Cancelling our wedding. What do i do with my wedding dress and veil?

I spent a ton of money on my [dream] wedding dress and veil that I absolutely adore - but feel I would look absolutely silly going to City Hall in it. As a Covid bride, having everything taken away, I feel like I can't let this pandemic take my dream wedding dress moment away, too! Would I look like an idiot if I wore them??

For those of you who are pivoting and changing up your wedding - what are you doing with your wedding dresses?!

XO,

Heartbroken Bride

Yes! Wear the dress and the find a gorgeous location and do a professional wedding photo shoot with your new hubby! Just because it's not the dream wedding and at city hall doesn't mean it shouldn't be a special, amazing day. You want to look back on your wedding day and think about what an amazing day it was regardless of what was going on in the world.

Girl, WEAR. THE. DRESS! From one NJ bride to another, I know how stressful these restrictions have been (originally 11/7/20, now 10/16/21). Just because your plans got changed doesn't make you any less of a bride. You're still marrying the love of your life. Wear the dress!

I say wear your dress. Like you said, covid took our original plans away, why let it take away your dream dress, too?

On the other hand, if you really feel awkward in it at city hall, then maybe save the dream dress for a later ceremony or reception?
Tbh, I had got 2 dresses because I always wanted to change for the reception. All up to you and whatever makes you feel good.
    Happy planning and best wishes!

I say get your money's worth and wear the dress then maybe sell it after. I work at a courthouse and people come in actual wedding dresses ALL THE TIME. So no you won't look silly!

If anything you can wear it to city hall and postpone the reception to a later date and wear the dress again as another option

I say wear the dress, have your bouquet, have your photographer and enjoy marrying the person you love! Definitely take some great pics around town. You can always have a reception for your 1st anniversary and wear your gown. Many covid couples are doing that. Make your day special, BECAUSE IT IS!!! ❤

P.S. Have even thought of a destination wedding with just the two of you? Sandals will even give a free wedding. Just a suggestion. Absolutely nothing wrong with a city hall wedding!! We are April 9, 2021 and eloping to Jamaica and live streaming to our family. Covid is very low there thus our decision.

So, when DH and I went to the NYC marriage bureau to get our license, we saw a LOT of people getting married that day.

MANY of them in full get up, even with BPs!

    Wear your dress!

Do what feels right. And what you want to do.
But our wedding was scheduled 10/11/2020 (we went forward and had a small backyard wedding 10/10/2020) I was mad and frustrated and sad at the possibility of not wearing the dress id spent so much time researching and trying on.
Totally take professional photos. And if you feel comfortable wearing your gown to city hall. Hell go for it. We have already taken 2 photo shoots and have 1 more planned. My amazing wedding party helped take photos of us getting dressed up (looks like we are preparing for the real deal) and photos at our venue we had to reschedule. Not at all what I'd expected or dreamed but thankful for all the beautiful shots!

Wear the dress! You deserve to feel like a bride and wear the dress of your dreams. Just because you are going to city hall doesn’t mean you can’t do “bridal” things.

We don't want to postpone and party at a later date. I want to close the book on this chapter and start planning for our future - home, kid(s), etc... I'm 31 and don't want to wait to long on the kids front.

Love this idea, especially since travelling is a passion of ours. However, I have an auto immune disease and am not comfortable flying any time soon.

Thanks, Erin! I love the idea of a vow renewal... I didn't want to postpone our big party - wanted to get a start on our house, kids, etc.... Maybe we can do something for our 5th year anni!

Absolutely! I didn’t want to pass up on the big party, but with most of our guest list living out of town, it simply wasn’t possible or safe to do it this year, or possibly even next. We were already planning on postponing, then my FH lost his job and decided he wanted to pursue his true passion and join the Air Force, so we’re getting married for the formality in a few weeks. It seemed ridiculous to wear a big, poofy ball gown to sign a piece of paper and drop it off (you can marry yourselves in Colorado, so that’s what we’re planning to do). That being said, I also see absolutely NOTHING wrong with wearing your beautiful gown to the courthouse. I’d think it’s probably a pretty popular move right now.
