Cancelling our wedding. What do i do with my wedding dress and veil?

I spent a ton of money on my [dream] wedding dress and veil that I absolutely adore - but feel I would look absolutely silly going to City Hall in it. As a Covid bride, having everything taken away, I feel like I can't let this pandemic take my dream wedding dress moment away, too! Would I look like an idiot if I wore them??

For those of you who are pivoting and changing up your wedding - what are you doing with your wedding dresses?!

XO,

Heartbroken Bride

    I feel for you!

Wear your dress. Whether or not you get married in a hotel ballroom, city hall, on a mountaintop, or in a parking lot, the dress is gorgeous, you look amazing, and you deserve to feel incredible on your day!

Covid brides have had so much taken away, and you've likely shelled out a bunch of money on a wedding that is not going to materialize. You already have your dress, so wear it, enjoy it, and make that day yours, however it turns out.

PS: We canceled our wedding too, and the dress was one of the few things that went "right" on our elopement day. I was disappointed about a lot of things about how the day we got married turned out (still am), but my dress wasn't one of them. I don't regret wearing it at all.

Thank you so much for your reply, Kari - it's nice to receive perspective from an actual bride who's been through this already! I'm sorry to hear it didn't go as planned, but I'm glad you don't regret wearing your dress. I guess at the end of the day, the real win is marrying our amazing other halves!! Smiley heart

Absolutely wear your dress. I know it’s not the ideal wedding you wanted but it is still YOUR wedding day. Regardless of where you are don’t rob yourself of feeling and looking like the bride you’ve dreamt of. All that matters is you’re marrying your sweetheart. You can always have the big party at a later date.❤️

Definitely! I still feel frustrated and disappointed about it but whenever I get upset my husband says "we got married right?" and he tells me he thought it was still special even though it was nothing like what we wanted it to be. You could wear a trash bag and marry your person and it would still be special, but wearing a really beautiful dress makes for prettier photos and you'll feel bridal even if it's not the wedding you originally imagined.

Just wanted to say I'm sorry for what you are going through. I know how you feel. March 2021 bride here too. If you want to wear your dress, go for it! It's your chance to wear it. Who cares what others have to say! It's a beautiful dress and looks great on you!

Wear your wedding dress! It's your day and what you make it. Don't worry about what other people think. I am sure you will bring a smile to the faces of all of the people who see you in your dress.

We were getting married in April 2021. We’re just starting to cancel everything... which is awful, especially since EVERYTHING was planned and the money was down... it sucks.

We’re flying to Vegas to get married, and I am wearing my dream wedding dress (which actually looks a lot like yours with shoulder straps and it’s champagne colored). I’m ditching the veil for a jeweled comb to tone it down.
It’s our wedding! We didn’t get the big weddings we planned on, don’t let it take away your dress! You should still feel special no matter where it is AND your husband should still see you in it!

Wow your dress is beautiful! I am so sorry Covid is taking this day away from you. I say definitely wear it! I work right next to our local courthouse and I see SO many brides wearing gorgeous wedding dresses, especially now.

Thanks for your reply - - yes, we were paid up about 85% with our venue. Total heartbreak.

I LOVE your vegas plan! You're right.. and he has no idea what my dress looks like, so I'm excited to surprise him.

I'm sorry that you guys decided to cancel. In my opinion, I think you should totally wear it to the court house. I know it seems silly but nothing has been going our way since covid hit and the one thing we can control rught now is how we look on that special day! I say go for it! Pull up to the court house in a limo if you can and just make it a fun day but in that beautiful dress. You'll probably make someone's day seeing you guys all dressed up and getting married! Especially with everything that's going on.

Wear it and do a photoshoot.

I don't know what your city hall looks like but mine was right in front of the ocean.
There are brides who wear a full on gown and veil to get married at the courthouse. Covid brides have had to compromise on so much. Rock that dress!

I haven't been on here in ages. I was married six years ago. I rarely lurk, and even more rarely comment. That being said. WEAR THE DRESS! Wear it with abandon. Enjoy it. Wear it again when you can have your dream wedding, or find another fabulous dress. Take pictures and share them here, and with everyone you love.
