Cancelling Photographer

Mallory, on November 6, 2019 at 7:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
I found a photographer who i feel more confident with having at my wedding than the previous photographer I have booked to do my engagement pictures.

The previous photographer messaged me today for confirmation that we are still doing photos and the time change due to daylight savings. I haven't told her that we would like to cancel because i dont know what to say or how to go about it without hurting feelings.

Is she a friend of yours? If not, just be upfront.

It's a business relationship, so you don't need to worry about hurting feelings, other than being polite of course. But more importantly, what does your contract say about canceling?

I agree with PP. Just tell her you and your fiancé have decided to go in a different direction and have hired a different photographer.

We don't have a contract with this photographer since we are just doing engagement pictures and potential wedding pics. Based on the information she's given me and able to provide, she's had little experience in Wedding photography. Versus our new photographer, who we are about to sign papers with whose had a lot of experience.

I would just be honest with her. We fired our original officiant. It was nothing against him we just wanted a nonreligious ceremony and he was a pastor our venue recommended and he said he had to include religion in the ceremony.

Definitely be upfront, and do it soon. You need to let this photographer find another client. Normally it's beneficial to have a contract, but a bonus of this situation is that there are no cancellation fees!

She's a professional, and you have only a business relationship with her. There are no feelings to consider. This is business. Just call or send a nice email saying we're going a different way for the wedding, and your services are no longer needed.

BTW, you may want to look at your contract before you talk to her, just so you are aware of any possible cancellation fees in there.
