Candles! Real or fake?

Are you using real candies or LED? Why? My venue allows real as long as the votive/vase comes over the top of the candle by an inch. Trying to decide mostly on the large candles inside the hurricane lantern. Opinions??

Led...our venue houses the philharmonic orchestra's music, so no flames allowed.

I originally bought the ikea candles and test burned a few. Turns out their tea lights dont last long enough for our reception.

For that reason i went with leds that are a warm yellow and look very realistic.

We used real because I like the look more and they were cheaper. We collected candles and candle holders for like a year before so we could use coupons on all of them from Michaels. I love candles and wanted a bunch. Not nearly as many as JamieLynn, but now I'm really jealous

    IMO, nothing glows like real.

@Melody, I'm definitely worried about the time. But I bought a lot of their votives too, which claim to have a 12 hr burn time. Maybe if I mix and match, a few burning out won't be as noticeable?

Our venue says the votive has to be 2 inches above the flame so we will probably do led. They are more expensive but finding the right size votive is a pain.

Real candles all the way for me. I wouldn't have even booked my venue if they didn't let me. It's such a mood setter. For votives-- Follow a local FB wedding or yard sale page and keep ur eyes open. Im thrifting antique ones but it's taking forever

    Real.

Careful when buying tea lights. The ones you can buy in bulk for very cheap are made with a lot of water and little wax. Once they are lit the flame cannot burn off the water quickly enough and the water will drown the wick. If you want the tea lights to burn off all the wax you will spend more $$$. But the wick won't drown! 100% beeswax all the way baby!!!!!

I think I'm the only one that prefers fake. Pretty sure if I had real ones I'd be worried about them lasting or setting fires all night. My candle holders are made of fallen aspen wood though, which can be very dry which means very fire hazardous...so probably best to go LED anyway.

Thanks for all the input! I'm going to go buy one of each to see what I like the best and how much it's going to cost me. I think cheap candles won't burn right and I agree that 100% beeswax is best but I don't want to spend a fortune. @Kathleen- and tips for getting them reasonably priced? I need to buy 25 of them.

Erin Wood, these soy candles got better reviews than the beeswax.

My sister was at a wedding recently that had lanterns similar to the one in your picture. They used real candles and the wax was pouring out of them, looked like a nightmare! We're using similar lanterns and opted for LED for this reason and the lantern gets pretty hot with a real candle.

I got good deals at thecandledepot.com and 100candles.com. They burned really slow and kept their shape pretty decently!

We used real for the same reason other people have mentioned- it's a better look than fake candles. We made sure to have a wide aisle so my dress didn't catch and my wedding planner and her team had the guests walk down the side aisles, so they didn't have to worry about the candles.

We are using led. Our coordinator said normal tea lights wouldn't last or entire reception

Thank you for all of the tips. There are a lot of pros and cons. If we do real we won't light them during the ceremony. Just for reception. Definitely will be testing any candle I buy for at least 6 hours to see what happens. Wax spilling out of lanterns sounds horrible!
