Irchykk, on August 22, 2012 at 3:49 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 32

Who is having a candy buffet at the reception?

& if you are having it, what candy are you putting out there?

I wanted to do it, but FH said NO WAY ... I was going to put some Extreme Sour candy, some lollipops, M&M, & Hershey chocolate, & whatever else I can find, but he said NO WAY ..

what are you ladies doing? & what kind of candy?

We had a candy buffet, it was a HUGE HIT. Our family and friends LOVED it. Do you know why he is so against it? We had lollipops , rock candy, hersey kisses, sixletts, Gummy Bears, apple licorice, Sour apple sticks, Heart mints, Nuggets, & Fruit Jellies. Here's a pic of what it looked like. Smiley smile

Yea..I am also wondering why is he so against it? money? we are having more of a dessert buffet (after much deliberation when seeing Married my true love's since my color is green) We finally decided on basic candies in a variation of jars and antique candy tins. And we are adding cookies and caramel apples, etc. Does he have a better idea for a favor? or not want to do one at all?

We are hoping to do a s'mores bar AND halloween candy buffet if we get an October 2013 date. It's actually the second thing I've asked every venue that we've spoken to. "Hi, I love your venue! Are you handicap accessible? And can I do a s'mores bar and halloween candy buffet at your facilities?" lol

I've seen many candy bars! They are all wonderful and unique but have 1 thing in common ... the candy goes FAST and then the area looks like a tornado went through it within 15 minutes of guests arriving. If you do a candy bar, might I suggest having one person from the hall or venue or "hiring" a tween from your family be responsible for keeping the bar full and tidy. If you decide to not the jars refilled, this person could be responsible for taking down the bar after a certain length of time. Remember to get pictures of the candy bar BEFORE any guests arrive!!!!!!

    Congratulations on your wedding!

We had one and it was a HUGE hit! Our guests loved it and we only had a little candy left over. We didn't do a color coordinated one, we just picked candy that we thought people would like. Ours had Hersheys Kisses, Chocolate covered raisins, sour patch kids, swedish fish, red hots, assorted fun size candy bars, twizzlers, starburst, laffy taffy, suckers, caramels, tootsie rolls, and skittles. I was so proud of ours - I bought all of the jars, candy, and designed it myself. This is the best picture I have of it so far (still waiting on our pro pics).

The candy bar at the wedding I went to this weekend never got messy or empty, and I'm not sure I saw anyone filling it. But there was a limited variety.

OMG Sophie, I would be ecstatic if I saw Star Wars shaped chocolates at a wedding! That's SO friggin awesome!

We didn't do a candy buffet but we did a dessert buffet. Kolacky (polish pastry), mini cupcakes, buckeye candies (peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate), Garrett's popcorn, assorted pastries, chocolate covered strawberries, cheesecake pops, special chocolates from Nashville.....OMG so good. We had little take-home boxes so people could load up and enjoy them later, like a favor.

@groomzilla - We had 75 guests. I had way too much candy, but my guests took advantage. Some of them took 2 or 3 takeout containers home with them. As long as I didn't have to take it home, I didn't care!

So with the candy that I bought he says its cheap looking thats why we shouldnt do it. & my brother was at the house here when theh both discovered my box with candy and both agreed... i already bought bunch of candy so i dont see why its an issue..

He saod if we going to do candy then we should put Godiva and that kind of candy. I am NOT buying Godiva. Rather not have anything at all then.. candy I was just doing as an extra...

Our favors are mini cheese graters (1) for each family.. & we also have a photo booth. And 2 $1 lottery tickets for each guest...

We are doing a candy buffet with the candies that we grew up on: Mike & Ike's, candy necklaces, lipstick candies, etc. I'm not uncovering the table until the end of the night as we will have personalized bags that they can fill up as they are leaving.

My candy table went ok, it probably would have went better but everyone was interested in the cake pops & ice cream truck lol I may have had a little too much sweets! I wanted less jars but DH insisted on a million(at least it felt like that after I had to buy enough candy to fill them up!) Smiley smile The first thing that went were the lindor truffles lol. Everything I got was easter clearance candy. I also had hershey kisses, mini candy bars, jelly beans, m&m's, random flavored chocolates, laffy taffy, regular taffy & those little mints that look like kisses.

Godiva? He's insane! I think normal candy doesn't look cheap! People LOVE it. The wedding I went to this past weekend had hersey kisses, gummie bears, and three different types of M&M's, and dum dums!

Tell them to get a stick out of their butt! It's CANDY. Nobody says no to candy! Unless they're diabetic.
