Candy-free Favor Ideas

Brittany, on January 27, 2021 at 12:39 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 27

Got a bunch of guests who don’t eat candy outside of special occasions coming and I wanted to give something that won’t get totally wasted. I bought mini hand sanitizers from Bath and Body Works (the good kind that don’t smell like cheap tequila), but my mom said that wasn’t a very good favor. Any ideas?

I think that's a great favor, especially now. Most favors get left behind (most people don't need another shot glass or coozie or succulent plant). That's why edible favors are usually a good idea (most people will take a cookie or something). Hand sanitizer is something everyone is using way more now, so some nice-smelling hand sanitizer is very in demand and sometimes hard to come by nowadays.

That’s what I thought too! Then my mom crapped all over the idea. She thinks we should do personalized wine stem decorations, but they’re like $3-5 each and that’s more than I want to pay for something so useless.

Favors are always optional. People are much more likely to take edible favors than non edibles

    I also think that's a great idea!

My friend had edible favors also and they were large chocolate covered pretzel sticks. they were decorated to represent a bride and groom! Super cute and super yummy!

I agree, but I would have to buy a bunch of low-carb and sugar-free things for them to actually be consumed or else it would just be a waste and those are really expensive.

I thought about that, but chocolate is still candy and very few would eat them, so it would be wasteful. I’m trying to avoid that some, that’s why I thought the sanitizer was good.

I make single use gummy bear and dinosaur soaps, so maybe I’ll do a sanitizer and a few of those. That’s a good idea! Thank you!

If sweets are off the table, other popular edible favor ideas are gourmet popcorn or coffee beans/specialty teas.

I had considered that, but only like 2 people will drink/consume the coffee or tea and I gave most of them gourmet popcorn for Christmas (not the popcorn tins, actual homemade popcorn) because I had considered that as well.

I recently had my wedding and had mini-hand sanitizers as one of the favors, and it was very well received. I wanted to use the BBW mini sanitizers, but my now husband was very picky about the scents and did not like many of them. I was disappointed, but instead, I bought mini bottles of Purells or GermX (which don't seem to smell too bad) and used those instead. They were great and useful. If you have a scent that you and your FH like, I think your guests would love the idea (and they won't get left behind)!

We already agreed on the scents and bought them, that’s why I’m kind of irritated about it, but we found some cool stress balls and are now discussing that.

I can understand that. I say use the hand sanitizers you already have (if I get a vote -- LOL!). If you decide not to use them as your favors, you can still use them by placing a few on the center of each table at your rehearsal dinner, cocktail hour and reception for your guests to use during the event so all of them don't go to waste.

Especially if you've already purchased them, I'd just stick with the hand sanitizer. In the best of circumstances, favors shouldn't be a big deal and are completely optional (lots of people don't do them at all...), and you're clearly not in the best of circumstances planning a Covid-wedding. Personalized glasses and such are much less popular now than they might have been when your mom got married. Generally, now the mindset is that very few people are going to appreciate and/or keep a glass with anyone's name/info on it, so they are pretty much a waste of money and effort. Just tell her you appreciate her opinion, but you've made this decision, so discussion over. If you truly think she wants a personalized glass, get her one as part of her MOB gift. Good luck!

Yeah, as a guest I'd much prefer the hand sanitizer over the wine stem decoration. I agree that it's useless lol.

Hand sanitizers are a great favor for people right now. I am doing small jars of honey with little honeycombs
