Cannot host rehearsal dinner at venue

Jennifer, on February 4, 2021 at 12:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

We are planning to have our wedding on a Saturday and really don't want to move our date to a Friday because it would be an inconvenience to our guests.

Unfortunately, this puts us at a disadvantage for the rehearsal dinner. Our venue offers the perfect site for this as well, BUT we are not guaranteed it will be available to us the Friday night prior to our wedding day. If nobody books that Friday it is ours yay! but we aren't betting on nobody booking an available Friday in August. =( We also don't want to have it on an alternative day as the venue is just far enough that our bridal party & family would need to take an extra day off so we of course need to avoid that.

We would like to still have this event, for us it is the into to the weekend and a way for us to say thank you to the group and a way to settle before the big event.

I am at a loss for what to do =( maybe a catered dinner at the AirB&B so everyone can hang out and relax? But what does that mean for the practice run? Our officiant is recommending it but I don't think its required? The ceremony seems pretty straight forward to us as there are no readings and we are only expecting them to stand beside us and the officiant will be doing all the speaking.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Can you book rehearsal dinner site at the venue for Friday night as well so you are guaranteed to host your rehearsal dinner there? That seems to be the best option (assuming it isn't too expensive). If that doesn't work, is there a restaurant nearby the venue that you could use to host your rehearsal dinner?

If Covid was not going on, people would be having rehearsal dinners at restaurants. Traditionally they are very low key/casual. Example being pizza or tacos. Those can be delivered anywhere and served with sodas/beers.

As for a rehearsal, if everyone has been in a wedding before then you can get away with skipping it. If the ceremony is religious with many details or the officiant recommends, then it can held the night before or a run through the morning of.

I wish! But unfortunately they will make more money off a wedding than a rehearsal dinner =( Can't say I disagree with their decision there hahaha

I will definitely look at the restaurants nearby! Thanks!

Our venue was the same way. We only planned on having the rehearsal there and the dinner somewhere else. We booked a restaurant with a private room for the rehearsal dinner, but this was pre-Covid. We figured worst case we would quickly run over the rehearsal the morning of the wedding. It ended up working out and we were able to have our rehearsal at our venue. It was on a Friday night in July. Airbnbs currently ban any type of event of more than 16 people because of Covid.

I’ve been to rehearsals at restaurants. You also don’t necessarily need one.

If you have a rehearsal, then a dinner afterwards needs to be hosted. But the ceremony rehearsal is optional

You can always rent a space elsewhere for the dinner. As far as actually rehearsing the ceremony; if you are unable to, it will not be a big deal. However, I suggest rehearsing the morning of if possible.

Can you have the rehearsal at the venue and the dinner at a restaurant or elsewhere? Or is the rehearsal not guaranteed as well?

Unfortunately/but also fortunately, the venue only does one event per day so its kind of an all or nothing kinda deal.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm getting married on a Sunday, so we may not have access the the venue on Saturday. We've already planned to host the rehearsal dinner at a restaurant about two blocks from the venue. If we can use it for a walk-through, great! If not, I'm just going to share some diagrams of the garden and hope everyone understands from that.

You could do late-ish afternoon rehearsal at the place maybe? Cocktail drinks at a restaurant and dinner after?

Unfortunately, we cannot be on-site at all if there is a wedding booked. =( But I like the cocktail idea!

We are doing our rehearsal dinner at the house and getting a couple of pizzas.

I think the airbnb is a great idea
