So the FH and I seem to be having trouble trying to decide on a honeymoon location and can't seem to find the deciding factor. We have our top choices, we're not beach people by any means and we have a decent budget provided by the future in-laws. We want to be able to book it soon while prices are...

Where would you recommend and why?

We went to a little town in Oregon called Yachats. It's very tiny, but is located perfectly on the coast because you can go north to Newport and other towns to visit marinas, shop, aquariums, hiking, etc. Or go south to the sea lion caves, hike to the famous Heceta Head Lighthouse, visit the sand dunes, etc. It is absolutely beautiful there! They have small b&bs and bigger hotels...this is where we stayed www.oceanhaven.com

The lady who ran it is awesome! We just got a Christmas card from her Smiley smile It is literally located right between the mountains and the ocean.

If you like Italy, have you been to Florence? That is my favorite place in Italy (so far). Someday I want to go back and rent a little apartment for a couple weeks and drive around Tuscany. We also considered US Virgin Islands, but we were in hurricane season so didn't want to press our luck.

    .

Also, Banff, Canada is absolutely beautiful we have heard. That is a must on our travel to places someday. Greece too.

We loved Italy, better than I had anticipated..there is Venice, Florence, Sorrento, Capri, quaint Sienna, Tuscany not just Rome. Or maybe Greece? I have heard great things about that country from friends. Have you tried Budapest and Prague? Cheap! Switzerland is an absolute dream and such friendly Swiss! What about Denmark, Finland, and Sweden? That might be pricey though... Hawaii is nice (I've been there four times and three different islands), just not as city as I like for my honeymoon. It's nice to be versatile and have a combo of city and country and take buses, trains, and boats to your different destinations too. You could do southeast asia (cheap, cultural) too like someone suggested - Thailand, Singapore (lots of English speakers), Malaysia, Hong Kong even stopping off somewhere like New Zealand or Australia since you're in the area so to speak. Smiley smile The possibilities are endless. Let us know what you decide. Smiley smile

I recommend not flying around the world because you will be exhausted and a quick flight is so much less stressful! So, that said, I would go to Costa Rica. I lived their for 2.5 years and it's amazing! There are beaches, jungles, and volcanoes. Also, the mom of a friend of mine has been to Hawaii and Costa Rica and she said that they were essentially the same in climate, etc but Costa Rica was much more beautiful and relaxed. As far as activities go you can surf, hike, take the zip line, hang out with rastafarians on the Caribbean side, visit old ruins and in the city party til dawn. If you decide to go there, I can help make recommendations, too. Good luck!

Oh yeah, we're going to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. Both of us have traveled quite a bit and we decided to not to jam pack our honeymoon with activities so we had time to relax, too. We love hiking and just being outdoors as well.

FH and I are talking about hiking the Grand Canyon. He wants to hike the Hermit Trail. He has been before and says it is a life-changing experience.

Thanks all! These are such great ideas and helped a lot! I've spent most of my evening on Trip Advisor trying to narrow things down a bit more. FH seems to be pleased with what we are finding too! Smiley smile

I apologize if someone suggested this, I didn't read all the posts. But Cuba just opened up to American tourists, is warm and beautiful most of the time, it would be an adventure to go somewhere that an American civilian hasn't been to in years, and would be very unique. Since you've both traveled before it's a place most people haven't been to. I wanted to go there and then hop over to DisneyWorld but poor me, we're getting married in Gibraltar now and honeymooning in Spain. I know, I know, I'll live.

Wow a lot of great suggestions. Here's another! You didn't say if you had been to Costa Rica. This property is 1000 ft up above about the famous Manual Antonio State Park. It is encircled by a lovely ring of mountains and dozens of waterfalls. The site has a video - take a look!

We're going to Disney World! haha! we want to get married in the summer but we want to go somwhere in the southern hemisphere for our honeymoon so we aren't going untill Feb of 2011. and since it's winter there during our summer we decided to wait. but we really wanted to go somewhere after the wedding so we are going to Disney for a few days! It will be so much fun! best place for the adventurer and the kid at heart! We've also traveled quite a bit and like many people said, i would suggest Italy... I went there for 2 and a half weeks and there is so much to do! Check out Chinquatera in northern Italy, 5 little cliff towns and you can hike between them! maybe consider exploring europe by rail? they have weekly or monthly passes that will get you anywhere for about $300 (at least they were a few years ago)... and youth hostels are very cheap and fun to meet people, not a lot of privacy though... but I'll shut up now... good luck!
