Can't decide on anything.

Kelly, on April 18, 2017 at 2:28 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

When my FH and I got engaged a friend of ours offered up their beautiful property to have the ceremony and reception. My parents are paying for everything and I was trying to keep it relatively cheap and thought that an outdoor wedding would be a way to cut costs. Boy was I wrong. We started planning and quickly realized that it was going to be way more expensive than we thought. I had a slight mental break down thinking about all the moving pieces that I would need (portable toilet, transportation, tables, chairs, etc.) My FH took the reigns and found a great hotel for us to host everything and we wouldn't have to worry about a thing which is perfect.

However, all of the decorations that I planned were more suited for an outdoor wedding and I don't feel like they transfer indoors. The only thing I have decided on are pink BM dresses and navy suits. Nothing I look at is giving me inspiration and I keep going back to my previous plans. Continued in comments

I went to the florist today thinking it would trigger my inner bride but it didnt help. The hotel has busy carpet so I want to try and offset it with classic, clean decorations.

Do you think this centerpiece would work indoors?

That picture was taken from an indoor wedding, you can see the busy standard hotel carpet in the background, so yes.

I guess I'm not seeing carpet in this picture but thank you. I am just having trouble picking anything. I don't know what my bouquet is going to look like. I don't know if my bridesmaids bouquets should match mine or if they're supposed to be different or if all of ours should match the decoration somehow. I feel like this should all be coming naturally to me but it's not.

That stuff didn't come naturally to me either! Don't beat yourself up. I asked my florist to walk me through all my options and show me pictures to give me an idea. I used Pinterest to give me centerpiece ideas I could do myself on a budget. The coordinator at my venue has steered me in very specific directions when I was unsure about certain logistics. It will all work out, that picture is beautiful and would look great indoors or outdoors.

I think that centerpiece works but also talk to the hotel to see if they have a portfolio of pictures you can look at of weddings they have held there. It may give you some additional inspiration

I asked our florist for assistance because I didn't know what looked good with what.

I keep buying magazines and looking on Pinterest. When I find something I like I second guess myself thinking its to springy or it's not going to go with my dress. Is anyone having their bouquet match their bridesmaids or centerpieces?

Go on Pinterest, start pinning things you like. You'll see certain common things keep coming up over and over again. And create a board of don't like too. Your florists and vendors can tell as.much from that as what you like. I wasn't sure what I liked, but knew what I didn't.

I picked my bouquet first, and then my florist recommend bridesmaids bouquets based on mine. They're not quite mine versions but they use the same flowers.

Our venue provided a lot of the inspiration for centerpieces, so definitely check with yours for pics!

Everyone second guesses themselves. No one really knows what to do- that's what this forum is here, and why people who've already been married stick around and help us out!

I don't want this to come off as too harsh but - you're way overthinking everything.

Pinterest has made every bride think that their decor, BMs, GMs, ect. have to match with the venue perfectly - honestly, very few to none of your guests will give 2 shits about what your decor looks like other than, "Oh, wow, that's so pretty!" Take some deep breaths each time you feel yourself starting to get anxious or stress over this and take a step back to think, in 10 years, will I really care if the wood slices for the centerpieces felt/looked out of place?

Find decor and styles that catch your eye, in general, and then talk them over with your FH or florist or planner or whoever.

And that inspo pic you posted is actually one of mine as well for my indoor, French country venue. My florist loved the idea and thought it worked perfectly for an indoor wedding to set the ambiance and create a lovely glow around the room. Trust yourself!

Thank you all! I think I am overthinking it. I'm going to take cheval's advice and just breathe. As long as FH and I like the decor that's all that matters.

@Kelly- I think everyone has a point where they begin to obsess over decor or other minor details that don't fully matter. Taking a step back to just look at the overall picture and see that, despite not being 100% sure on the decor/flowers/signs/whatever, your wedding is still coming together the way you want is something important to do at multiple points.

And stop looking at Pinterest if it's stressing you out; I had to back away for a few months because it felt like idea overload. You'll be fine, I promise Smiley smile

Find a color scheme you like - I think three colors is good (two main and a third as an accent). I found this yesterday and I think it matches what you said you liked. Then use the palette as your guide.

I wrote about narrowing down choices yesterday so this is fresh in my mind - use descriptive words to help you make your choices. How do you envision your event... formal and traditional, whimsical, contemporary and funky, big and fun, small and intimate. I've found that usually my brides inherently know what feel appeals to them, so think about that first. Then use that as a jumping off point.

If you want a big and fun event, then a large guest list and things like a cotton candy bar or ice cream station would suit along with say table numbers featuring baby pictures of you and your fh. If you want something intimate, then a smaller guest list and lots of twinkle lights and smaller tables makes more sense. Know what I mean?

I find WW very helpfu. If you can narrow items down or maybe 3 or 4 options, post the choice son here and you'll get honest feedback.

I don't think the bouquets have to match. I absolutely live the centerpiece you posts. I'll look great indoors. M venue also has busy carpeting... I received advice on here... I'm going with uplighting and a dimmed room to move focus away from the carpet.

I find the planning to be overwhelming times. It's helped me to focus on finalizing one aspect per week, I.e. One week I solely focus on ceremony decor, the other week cake design, other week guestbook... etc.

Pinterest and Etsy have been my other bffs during this process.

I also like to get a feel for what's our style... vs. What's trendy / in season.
