The overall design of the cake and the cake topper matched the vintage/antique aesthetic of the wedding. The colors of the cake matched my dress (ivory/white and champagne). I thought this looked really nice for the cake cutting photos since everything looked cohesive. It was important to me that the cake matched the wedding. This is a personal choice, though. Some couples opt to show their personalities and have a less traditional cake and incorporate their interests, pets, etc. It really just depends on the individual couple and your personal style.


If you are unsure what style to go with you can check Pinterest and see if you can find a cake you like. If you have a bakery in mind you can check their Facebook/Instagram pages. I personally did the later and found a cake I liked in a style I knew the bakery could execute well. Bakeries usually have display cakes and a photos for you to go through if you prefer to go in person.
For the flavors we just went with what we like. White cake is seriously our favorite so we went with that. We threw in a tier of chocolate for people that prefer that. Most bakeries offer a tasting so that you can try different flavors and fillings. I would recommend doing that since it will give you good idea of what is offered and then you can decide what you like the best and/or what is within budget.

We're picking a cake that goes with our "theme". It's not really a theme but we're getting married in a garden so it's going to reflect that. So I'm thinking florals with white rustic icing. Or a traditional cake for the location since we're doing a destination wedding.

Cake and the desserts were a very high priority for us we are having a 5 tier masterpiece it's going to be a mix of these pictures

Cookie dough

White chocolate but it's going to be purple

Blue velvet

pink champagne

strawberry

Luckily we were able to try the different cakes offered by our baker at our tasting. We tried a red velvet with white mousse buttercream icing that was to die for. Since we’re both David Lynch fans, we opted for blue velvet cake instead and for obvious reasons had the night sky for the icing with a topper that said “to the horse head nebula.” We have that as an inside joke as something we would say when we first started dating after watching tonight’s sky.
