Can’t decide on venue!!

Amy, on May 3, 2018 at 11:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
Help! I have two amazing venues I can’t decide between. We’ll be having a Sunday wedding, so most guests will be staying Sunday-Monday, and the ones at the rehearsal dinner /out of town guests will likely be there Saturday-Monday. Both have places for guests to stay the entire weekend. Both have lovely outdoor ceremony spaces

Airlie
Pros:
Gorgeous reception space (open, tons of windows)
everyone can stay on site if they want
Lots to do on site

Cons:
More expensive
Loud ac in summer
Haven’t seen rain plan ceremony space
Can’t save on alcohol expenses by buying wholesale

Rosemont Inn
Pros:
Cheaper
Amazing staff-made us feel like we wouldn’t be bothered by anything going wrong because they have backup plans up the wazoo lol

Cons:
Not as pretty interior (was recently repainted white, but still isn’t very “open” feeling)
Not everyone can stay on site
Not much for guests to do day of

Any thoughts? Anyone had their ceremony at one location and can sway us?

I would pick the first venue. I like that everyone can stay together and on-site and that it includes things for guests to do.

Do you have a theme for your wedding?

They are both beautiful venues, and I don't think you'll go wrong picking either one. Your list of pros and cons is great, because it makes the decision less emotional.

I think I would consider the "people able to stay there, and lots to do" factor as pretty important, if you do have a lot of people coming from out of town. My daughter's wedding last weekend was like a huge family reunion for lots of people, and it was fun that we all stayed at the same hotel, and had a gathering space that we put to good use. There is a lot more to a wedding (when it's out of town) besides just the ceremony and reception, and it's good to consider your guests' situations.

Will most of your guests be able to afford the lodging at the first venue?

I think I would lean toward that first venue, if you are able to afford it in your budget, and if you first see what the rain plan would be.

The factor that stood out the most for the second venue was the great staff that has all the contingency plans in place. That is reassuring.

I love the ceiling & windows in the second picture, it seems like you are outdoors! It just depends on what you want most I guess! It was more important to us that we had a bride suite & groom's suite and room for 200 people rather than other things, so I think it just depends what is most important to you both!

I love the look of the first venue, so I’d probably go with that one. But I wouldn’t book before you know backup plans for rain! We ruled one venue out entirely just because we hated the indoor ceremony space we would have needed to use if the weather was bad.

We don’t have a theme yet. I believe the rain plan for the first space is a conference room-esqe space with big windows looking out. The other place’s rain plan is on the porch of their big mansion. The Rosemont has the better rain plan, comparatively.
