Can't find a venue....need a rustic & elegant place

NYbride, on August 23, 2009 at 5:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Helo All -

I am new to this site and excited to start planning. I currently live in Brooklyn. I am looking for an outdoor, classic and simple place to hold 80-100 people. Most of my guests are from out of town and would like them to stay on-site -- a B&B perhaps? My dream is to host a wine & cheese welcome event on Friday, wedding on Saturday and a send-off breakfast on Sunday. I want it to be a celebration and not such an orchestrated and rigid event. This will be our 2nd wedding so I am looking for a fun-spirited wedding! I am interested in:

- Joseph Ambler Inn

- Glasbern Inn

- Woolverton Inn

- Inn at Stone Ridge (NY)

- Cameron Estate Inn

I am not set on a particular location in PA, I also like upstate NY. Has anyone been to any of these places or have any recommendations. I REALLY love barn-style weddings but the cost is too much and there are too many extra fees needed and strict guidelines to follow.

PLEASE HELP!!!! Many thank-you's for all help.

Actually there is a thing on here you can look for venues in ur area. Just go to Vendors click on what you are looking for (venues) your zip code and they give u a bunch of places! I would give it a shot!! Good luckSmiley smile. Also some places have a book called the wedding planner (its free, and mostly shopping centers have these at their offices) they give names and # for venues too! Good luck to you!!

I think the Bear Mountain Inn is very nice for weddings, and people can stay there and it is rustic, but elegant.

I'm at the Joseph Ambler Inn on Saturday. If you email me, I can give you some feedback. But, it's quite a long drive from Brooklyn.

    Hello!

There are some great barn-like venues in PA and upstate NY, and while you may think a barn wedding will cost too much, there are some great DIY ways to make it personal and less expensive! I personally love Glasbern Inn, but there are many more venues in both of those areas to choose from! You could even go so far as to find a local who has a beautiful, old, rustic barn and ask them if you could rent it for the day of your wedding! You'd be surprised how many people want to help a bride's wedding dreams come true!

I hope this helps! I'd love to speak to you more about the possibilities for your wedding day (as they're endless)! Please don't hesitate to call or email me with any further questions.

    Best,

We've shot a couple beautiful weddings at barns - the beauty of a barn wedding is that often you need to spend very little money on decoration given the beauty of the barn.

    I can personally recommend

-General Potter Farm just outside of State College, PA http://www.generalpotterfarm.com/

(State College could be difficult to get people to go to, given the isolation of the area)

    - Cheeseman Farm north of Pittsburgh

Good luck on your venue search!

    Cheers,

I have no clue of the price ranges for any of these, but they sure did look cool and fit the feel your looking for. Let me know what you think

Thanks all for all of your great ideas. I have looked into many of these places and think I might need to go with a wedding coordinator but feel that some coordinators want too much $$$$. I am not looking on spending tons of $, especially on my second wedding. I love the barn/outdoor feel but feel that if I don't go with a planner, I will not get to all of them by the end of the year. I have spoken to a few planners in the NY area and they all tell me I have to rent trailers for bathrooms if I want an outdoor event....is that true? What does that look like? I am growing anxious and feel like this is becoming a CHORE :-(.

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY GREAT AND VALUABLE PLANNTERS IN S.NJ or PA?

    HELP...I AM SINKING......

Hi!! A great rustic/outdoor wedding venue option is Anthony Wayne House! I am getting married there this May and it is so dreamy. It is a beautiful outdoor tent on a historical property. It can be rustic or modern but over all beautiful! Also, the catering company, Jeffery A Miller is absolutely incredible. The food is so good! Definitely check it out!
