Can't get over my stomach in some photos

Lauren, on November 15, 2023 at 11:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I've definitely had a hard time not over analyzing the way I looked or the very small things that went wrong on my wedding day. I had an amazing day and I was so happy on the day of the wedding. My new life with my husband is so great and I feel very at peace with that. The problem is that I am a perfectionist sometimes and I can't stop wishing I had lost more weight for my wedding. I was working out 5 times a week and trying to watch what I was eating, but leading up to the wedding I was so stressed and got a stress belly. I tried shape wear and it all showed through my dress and was more unflattering with it. I keep regretting not trying on my dress again a couple weeks before the wedding because maybe I could have been even more mindful of what I was eating. I have some photos wear my stomach looks totally fine (mostly before I ate dinner) and then I've seen some other photos wear I feel like I have a stomach. I know that the wedding is about so much more than the way you look and I really did feel special on this day. I just can't get out of my head on this. I've attached 4 photos, 2 where I feel like my stomach looks very obvious and 2 where it looks totally fine. Has anyone else felt this way after your wedding? I realize that to some this may seem silly... I'm just curious if anyone has felt the same way after their wedding.

You look amazing. Lighting and angles can be your best friend or biggest enemy! Seriously, remember when that unedited bikini photo of Khloe K was released by her grandma? Kim Kardashian doesn't even go to the beach unless it's cloudy because it makes cellulite less visible. Don't compare yourself to photoshopped images! You truly look so good and please try to not look at the photos you don't like. Delete them. Frame the ones you love.

I'm sorry you feel that way about some of your photos. I would ask yourself if you're often so hard on your physical self and reflect on why you feel your wedding day must be the penultimate of your beauty ideals? Give yourself grace. Your body and self-concept are so much more than these 2-dimensional pictures. By the way, I think you look lovely and there's no reason to appreciate only pictures of you hiding yourself. I could tell you were happiest and smiling when your body language was more open. Focus on your joy and the people in the pictures you're sharing your joy with because they did not come to see your flaws, only your happiness.

Thank you for this... it's true that lighting and angles have a big part! There were more raw photos that were actually really good and I'm sure the good and bad ones are more reflections of the lighting and angles. The hard part is when these not so great ones are posted by friends. I would never ask them to take them down, because that would be ridiculous haha, but I have a hard time when I can't control the photos going out. :/ I really appreciate your advice though!

Those pictures look quite decent. A lot of brides would do anything they could to have all their photos show so well.

Also, just remember - when you look back you'll think "I can't believe I thought I had a tummy, I looked so good!"

    But you truly truly do!

I look back at photos of me when I was a teenager/early 20s and remember how "fat" I thought I was then... I would kill to be that "fat" again now!!

Haha this is likely going to be true because I do that with old photos of myself even now. Thank you so much! It's so nice to be able to share this feeling without any judgement. I really appreciate the support.

Haha good point, it's funny how our feelings about our body in a single photo change over time even though the photo stays the same. Do you feel more confident now though?

I wish I could say yes, but no, absolutely not 😂😂 I would give anything to have my 20-year-old figure back! But that was kind of my point – enjoy your youthful figure! Don’t nitpick and hyper-fixate on tiny things that you perceived to be imperfections. I wish I had celebrated my figure back then, rather than being so critical of myself and only appreciating it years later, when it was gone.

You look lovely. Bodies have organs, a little stomach showing is normal and natural. You're not a hanger, so you don't need to be any particular size or shape to be beautiful and wonderful. To me you look really small and I don't notice any stomach issues, but body size is neutral either way.
