binx, on November 19, 2010 at 3:26 AM Posted in Married Life 0 22

So we all saw Sharons totally awesome canvas but am wondering if anyone else is doing the same thing. There are at least 5 pictures we love and after seeing Sharons im dying to get a canvas. Should I do that and get a 10x13 or just the 10x13? Thx ladies!

Do both Smiley smile I got the rights to my photos, so I printed some larger ones for framing and for my family (I used shutterfly). I paid our photog for the Canvas.

    I don't think I saw Sharon's canvas... : (

But... Our venue has cloth boards on the walls that we can decorate and I was thinking of getting canvasses of a few of our E-pics to decorate these spaces with. We're definitely going to get a canvas or two of our wedding pics tho. Can't imagine why we wouldn't...unless I think I look fat in all 2000 pics. Haha.

Canvases are a lovely addition to your home. Go as large as you possibly can, since canvases usually look better larger. Remember, with a wedding print, you normally have it matted and framed so that the final product is larger than the size of the print, and it takes up more visual space on your wall. Even without the mat, the frame still adds size to your print and takes up space. With a canvas, there is no frame (unless you get a floating frame with it), so the size of the canvas is the finished size. A 16x20 is a great starting size if you can get it. I have several 24x36 canvases hanging in my studio. They looked huge when they arrived. On the wall, they look so much smaller. Look at the space you want to place your canvas. Make a mock up size with poster board & this will help you determine if you need to go larger or not. Wall space can be deceiving until you get something up there & realize it's either too larger or too small for the space you have.

We went really big, ours is about 30 x 40. we wanted the size to match the size over the FP and it's doesn't feel that big. Plus it's black & white and just our our feet on the beach, so it's not too huge weddingy in your face. We want another smaller one in the bedroom that shows our faces, so we'll probably order another one soon.

We have three canvases. I agree that big ones are best for photos that have much "background" to them, but a close-up can still look nice on a smaller canvas--we have one that's 12x12 in our bedroom with soft close-up of us (see below).

Our biggest canvas is 20x24, I think. As you can see, the colors kind of complement the stained glass window in our spare room!

    Cabell: those are beautiful!

Sharon: after I saw yours I HAD to get at least 1 canvas. My photog sent me digital copies of our pix on CDs so I can print them at home, put them online, etc. I also used shutterfly to make the in-laws a coffee table album. Also, I'm sure our photogs policies are different but how did you get the copyrights (if ya don't mind me asking)?

I'd put the ones we love up but their too big to put on here :-/

You totally need to sign up for Groupon (they send you daily coupons)! I just bought a 10"X13" print on canvas from a company in CA for $30 including shipping.

It's in his contract that we have the rights to make prints from them.

I don't have the copyright to do anything with them - like enter them in contests etc. They still belong to him, but I can make printed copies of them.

Sharon - I totally missed the canvas convo. Where did you have yours done and how much?

Who else has done this? I'm very interested and just thought to start to look into it.

I had mine done through the photographer, so it was expensive and it was also a custom size and pretty big. But there are tons of sites out there where you can order canvases done online. I believe shutterfly does them and they have some good sales sometimes.

It was a while back that I was trying to decide which one to do on Canvas.

I keep telling hubby that we must get a canvas but he doesn't want to buy anything for our house until buy one. I think it may be a ploy for me to forget about it. Nope I write everything he promises to me down and date it...lol Yeah I think I saw Sharons post about the canvas's and the one you picked is huge but, work well with the picture you picked for it. Cabell is the one that made me woo for one, your canvas look great!

I have 2 canvas prints and i LOVE them! This is one i just took with my webcam so its not a great pic. I got them done through costco and they came out gorgeous. They are so much cheaper through costco compared to shutterfly!

Binx & Patricia: Aw, thanks. :-)

Jenni: Gorgeous! That was a really good shot for canvas.

We got ours from Snapfish when they were doing a 50% off sale on them. Post-Thanksgiving and post-Christmas sales should provide a lot of good deals!
