Card Box Security

BrooklynBride, on August 18, 2017 at 7:59 AM Posted in Style and Décor 1 32

I have heard many stories about the card box being stolen so how do you keep it safe? I am considering having a family member watch over it, but then I fear he may not be able to enjoy the wedding. You're not supposed to have your family members work the wedding, right? Or perhaps have it by the cake since everyone looks at the cake?

What have you guys done?

We are going to put ours away from the doors and in the reception area in plain site from all angles. Our DOC and her assistant will keep their eyes on it.

My MOH has graciously agreed to take the box to the bridal suite when dinner starts and DOC is giving her a key to be able to lock it in

My DOC is keeping her eyes on it and then taking it up to the bridal suite when the ceremony begins.

DOC kept and eye on it. We used wood glue to seal it shut so no one could open it.

Following. I've become increasingly nervous about this!

I've never heard any stories about this.

Most of my venues put the box on a little table next to/behind the couple.

Keep it away from doors, make sure its obvious if it's moved, and/or keep it locked. Ours was just a box without a lock, but it had a brick and jingle bells in it. Awkwardly heavy and loud to move! Our DOC moved it to our room (along with a few packaged gifts) after the cocktail hour was over. If you don't have a DOC, it's ok to ask a friend or family member to carry it to your room for you (just don't ask them to babysit it)

I'm going to take it out and put it in my trunk or more likely ask someone else do it.

I've never heard of card boxes being stolen. Honestly, this is not something I would even think to plan for.

Someone just posted earlier this week that they were at a wedding and someone stole the card box. Its sad to think that you even have to plan for something like this. We are going to keep ours near us then have someone take it to the trunk.

Oh my, in these stories is it a guest that stole it or a random person? I like the idea of making it heavy and loud so it's obvious if it's moved. I didn't think to plan for this either - it would not have crossed my mind if I hadn't read this!!!

Who are these boxes being stolen by? Guests? I never really thought this would be an issue...

Best bet is to keep it away from the front doors. Once everyone is seated for dinner tuck the card box away in a bridal suite or other secured area. Best wishes!

I'm making sure to have a locked card box... there are a couple people in my family that have some sticky fingers when the opportunity presents itself. I never thought of the entire box getting stolen though. Jeez

Someone at my work told me the card box was stolen at a friend's father's funeral Smiley sad people are so shitty.

We had ours near the door because venue policy is that a security guard is required to be by the entrance at all times.

Until WW I didn't realize that this was a issue and I started getting concerned about it because our box is open (it's a crate). I talked to my DOC about it and he said he keeps a eye on it. He's going to keep an eye out, empty it, and then lock everything up in our car.

I just saw that a DJ stole a bunch of cards from a local bride! Apparently the DJ said he only took $600 but they had 120 guests! So I do not believe that was all he stole. So sad! But after hearing that we are making a big wooden box and putting a lock on it. It's a shame it's gotten to that point but we don't want to take a chance!

I have NEVER heard of someone stealing the card box. Is your venue open to the public? Will there be multiple events going on at the same time as your wedding? If so, I could see the concern but if not, there should be no concern unless you think one of your close friends or family would steal from you! If you are really concerned, have your DOC move the card box to the bridal suite or a secure location after the reception starts; most people will give their cards and gifts during the cocktail hour.

My wedding is on the first floor of a restaurant and other people will be passing by to have dinner on the second floor... so it's a possibility that strangers may walk by. I was considering having the cardbox by the door so people can come it, sign the guest book and drop their gifts/cards off. Perhaps I'll have it close by the stage, with the guestbook as well. In my culture, red envelopes (with cash) are very common gifts. One of the MC/DJ companies I met with suggested to collect all of that cash to pay off the restaurant (to minimize theft). The restaurant does provide a bridal room, so I'll check if I can have it locked up there when dinner starts.

Thanks for your suggestions! I am always paranoid lol.

ETA: the staircase to the second floor faces the entrance.
