Card Box Security

I have heard many stories about the card box being stolen so how do you keep it safe? I am considering having a family member watch over it, but then I fear he may not be able to enjoy the wedding. You're not supposed to have your family members work the wedding, right? Or perhaps have it by the cake since everyone looks at the cake?

What have you guys done?

Our venue moved it inside the ballroom once cocktail hour was over and placed it on the cake table that was directly behind our sweetheart table. That way, it wasn't out in a more public area all night where guests were only going to get more drinks or dessert/late night snack and where other hotel guests could have seen it looking somewhat unsupervised. Instead it came into the area where the coordinator could watch it like a hawk and where people who weren't wedding guests couldn't get to it easily.

We are putting a lock on ours and keeping it in plain sight of the head table.

My DOC is gonna watch it and lock it in the car we're leaving in.

Unfortunately, thieves are everywhere. Even weddings. My DOC is taking care of and watching our card box. She will secure it in my car at the start of the reception. And while we all would love to think our friends and family would never do something like this, you just never know. Sad.

I've been hearing a lot of stories lately! My FH and I bought an antique trunk that is quite large and would be ridiculous if someone tried to steal it. We are adding shelves and making a whole display while incorporating a slot where our cards can go. We literally decided to do this to 1-prevent any theft 2-spend our money wisely since we can use the trunk to store linens in our home afterwards.

I'm going to make sure the DOC looks after it and after a certain point move it to our room. We are staying in the hotel where the wedding is that night

My DOC recommended placing it I the "back" of the venue far away from the door.

I can't fathom anyone in my family/friends taking cards, but I've heard of issues when there are a lot of vendors present (ex. Lots of waiters/waitresses constantly going in and out of the room). We will have an open basket for cards, but will have the DOC move it out to our car when everyone has sat down to dinner ..... just so we dont spend any time worrying about it. I've also thought about just sticking it under our table, but I don't want to have to remember about it or deal with it later.

This is something I have also been worrying about. Last year there was a couple dressing up as if they were guests at weddings and stealing cards out of boxes. They were caught but this still has me very weary!

I've spoken to my FMIL about this, too. I said I was gonna store it in the bridal room once dinner begins, but she is adamant that she'll watch it the entire night! She states she doesn't trust a locked room where others also have the key. Apparently, I am to expect some gold jewelry from family... and she's afraid of those things being stolen.
