Card Box Slot Size

We are building our own card box (it is a giant piggy bank) but I was wondering what size to make the card slot. I am currently planning on a 7.5 inch by 0.5 inch slot but I wanted to see if anyone has suggestions.

I'd go to cvs and find the biggest card so then you won't have to worry about one not fitting
