Card box with no slot

DC, on February 11, 2018 at 12:12 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 22
Hey guys! I came across this treasure in the store and fell in love with the idea of it being my card box. I didn't buy it because it had no card slot. I dont really like the idea of people having to open the box to put their cards in, but i really love this box. Is anyone else using a card box without a slot? Has anybody already used one? Do you know how well or bad it went?

I have never seen a card box without a slot. What is it made of- can you make your own slit?

Mine will be similar, without a slot, we are just leaving it open.

It is wood but those open spaces are a mirror that lies under the wood. Cutting is not possible.

I definitely thought about keeping it open but I'm not 100% sold on that idea. I am definitely leaning toward that though. Will probably close it after ceremony. Everything is in same room

Be careful about having a box that doesn't lock or is easy to open. You will have different vendors and people coming and going. It will be very easy for someone to quickly and discreetly take a card with cash in it and you would never know.

I had an open basket and had no issues. We didn't have a lot of vendors though (buffet dinner) so I wasn't really concerned about safety of the gifts.

If you're concerned about anything being stolen, maybe try to find a way to prop it slightly open and have it held in place that way? Then remove whatever device is holding it afterward. I'm picturing something glued on the inside that could be cut off later, but I'm sure there are other creative ways to do it.

That's exactly why I don't want it open. Thanks for that confirmation

We are having an open card box, we know all of our guests and vendors very well and trust all of them.

We just purchased a box as well that doesn't have a slot. I'm concerned about sticky fingers at our wedding so it's possible we will be making the slot and adding a lock.

Could you get a larger box, from a local craft store, and make a slot in that, decorate to compliment this box, and use this box on as the top 'tier'? Something like the picture, and just adhere this beauty as the top box.

After reading these forums, I became convinced I needed a locked box, since we have a lot of guests and you never know. If you're not worried about security, then having it propped open slightly would be the way to go I think. As a guest I might be nervous about opening it myself. Or many I'm just over thinking it. It is a gorgeous box though!

Ooo I like this. If it were possible to cut off the bottom of yours, you could attach it to a bigger box so the cars fall to the bottom (like one of those secure mailboxes!) That way it would be more difficult (and conspicuous) to reach in a grab one.

Mine isn't going to be locked. My brother is in charge of clearing the box every so often to ensure there's not too much in there at once 😉
