Getting a card box is still on my list. I like the idea of something that would require a full break to be opened just for safety. Another thing to consider is how cards will sit in the box. I was at one wedding where it was a 3-tiered box, but the middle one wasn't open enough for cards to fall to the bottom, so they got stuck after a few cards were put in and the whole thing had to be taken apart multiple times to fit everything.

We're planning to have a receiving line as people enter for cocktail hour, so we'd be standing near the escort card/ guest book table where the card box would be. Hopefully that would be enough of a deterrent. Once things are in full swing, the fiancé and I are planning to slip out for a few sunset pictures before the grand entrance, so that'll probably be when I'll ask our coordinator to grab the box for safekeeping.

View Quoted Comment I think that’s a good idea. But I know right after the ceremony we’d be pulled to take photos & I don’t think we would have any time to be on the receiving line. I do have a family member who’s willing to oversee, but I told him I’d rather for him to enjoy the wedding than to ‘work’. You know.

I totally get that. We have a really short window to take pictures at the church after the ceremony, so one of the (few!) perks of having the ceremony and reception in different locations is that we can do the receiving line into the reception (and keep an eye on the card box as well).

We got our card box I believe off Amazon. Anything we saw that came with a lock was too expensive, so my husband bought a small lock and key set and put it on himself. It worked out very well.
