Card Boxes.... Covered or Uncovered?

Is there any reason that people usually cover their card boxes? Is it to look like you're not braggin about all your cards (presumably with checks in them)? Or is to to keep them safe? As if someone from your wedding would steal them? Just curious. I was thinking it would match my decor better to...

Just curious. I was thinking it would match my decor better to have an open basket sitting out.

Suggestions? Tips? (Oh, thought! I dont want it to look like a tip basket Smiley winking )

Thieves could be your guests, guests of another event, staff, or people off the street. Keep the card/gift table away from the entrance and in a conspicuous place where everyone can see it.

We are planning on doing a birdcage for our cards, but I'm also not inviting a single person I don't know- there will be no plus ones, just close friends and immediate family. I could never imagine anyone in my family stealing from us but as others have stated you never know. I'll be sure to put it somewhere that is easily watched.

We had an open box and were fine... That said we only had 50 guests at the wedding and it was at my family's home with the cards out in the open and someone was always standing next to it... If I had more people at the wedding and a less secure location I probably would have done the closed box as well.

    ..... OH NO! Idea overload!

I could do the chest idea, with a slit in the top. I found a cool idea of how to make it look rustic, even though it'd be brandnew.

I could do the mail box with our design or colors on it.... but that would end up being a one time use thing....

But then again my FH would FLIP over the idea of making a Grill for me....

OVERLOAD!..... Keep um coming! lol. Im a glutton for DIY!

My BIL is making us the picture frame card box. I like having it closed, that way, cards won't go "missing", it's a great way to show some of our engagement photo's that people haven't seen yet, and i agree that it isnt anyone's buisness how many cards we are given.

So the other night I mentioned the idea of making a "Grill Card Box" to my FH.

he did his little shrug thing and went back to playing with his kindle. Not uncommon when it comes to wedding things.

Given his lack of verbal communication I have had to translate:

Shrug: i dont care one way or the other

    Nod: Good enough

Laugh: It's either really great/bad idea

Eye roll: You better be kidding.

But somewhere in that beautiful mind of his he thought about it. I caught him looking at mini grills online that could work for a card box.

I think we're going with the grill idea!

My FH and I are going to have a closed box, but we're also having a small intermission between dinner and dancing to take all of the presents home...and to change into our "dancing" clothes. That was there is no temptation from the after-party guests and no one makes off with anything without our families noticing. We're going to lock it...just in case any of our younger family members get any bright ideas. Smiley laugh

Good luck with the grill theme!

I had an open card box and did not have any issues, however I totally trusted all the staff at my venue. I know of another bride that had issues at a different venue that had money and cards go missing and come to find out it was the staff from her venue that took the money out of the cards.

Mollie, you're lucky. Im not sure I trust all the staff at the venue so I think we'll just lock everything up. Just to be on the safe side.

Glad I found this little article again! I'm making my card box now.

I'm thinking I'll add a small lock on it (which will fit perfect with my theme.)

Anyone know where I can get a slot cut into the glass for the cards to go through?
