Caribbean versus Europe Honeymoon

Miralis, on January 13, 2017 at 2:08 AM Posted in Honeymoon 1 4

Hi! We're getting married late May 2018 in Puerto Rico and going on our honeymoon beginning of June. We're debating whether Europe or the Caribbean (since we would already be there). Is a Europe trip too tiring after your wedding plus travel and jetlag? Or is it better to take a cruise or inclusive resort and just relax? Our budget for now is $5000 and want to take a 7 day long honeymoon (excluding travel dates). Any suggestions would be helpful!

I think it really depends on what kind of holiday you are looking for. If you want to relax, sit on the beach and not do much of anything other than eat and drink, Caribbean would probably be better.

If you want to do some sightseeing, maybe see one or two cities, visit some museums, walk aimlessly and see where you end up, try some new stuff, Europe might be a better fit.

I sort of think of beach vacations as a little more passive and a European vacation as a little more active.

My FH and I were in between both as well. We decided to go with a Southern Carribean cruise. It goes to four locations: Grand Turk, Aruba, La Romana (Dominican Republic) and Curacao. We decided we wanted more of a relaxing tropical honeymoon rather than a Europe super tourist-y one. With the cruise, I just feel as if it is the cheapest and most efficient way to travel. Plus you get to visit multiple locations rather than just one. You can also get the alcohol packages on your cruise, and I mean, unlimited food... So its sort of in the middle of doing a full on European Cruise and just doing an inclusive resort at one location. Hope this sort of helps!

You are looking at two very diverse ideas. Airfare between San Juan and Europe will be costly, taking a large chunk of that $5000.00 budget depending upon where in Europe you choose. Also, this is the high season in Europe, so unless you choose to take part in a group tour, you may really just squeak by.

Since you are already in San Juan you have plentiful flight options to many of the best Caribbean Islands. Since no two islands are alike, you can be married in Puerto Rico and discover the rich heritage and beautiful beaches of another. The choice, is a cruise. Again, San Juan is one of the most active Caribbean cruise ports, so the choices are vast.

A Caribbean vacation is only as passive is you choose. Depending upon the island/s chosen, there can be much to see and do.
